HIGH POINT, N.C. – The "Cardiac Kids" collected their fifth win on the season when trailing at halftime as Radford outscored High Point 36-18 in the second half for a 63-48 comeback victory, Tuesday afternoon inside the Millis Center.

The Highlander win was the first on the road against High Point since Jan. 26, 2013, snapping a four-game skid. Radford had not swept High Point since 2011. With the win, Radford improved its winning streak to nine straight and wins in 13 out of its last 14 games.

The win locks up at least the No. 2 seed in next week's Big South Championship as the Highlanders can earn a share of the regular season title with a Liberty loss on Saturday.

Offensively, Claudia Quevedo went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc to finish with a team-high 18 points to lead four Highlanders in double-figures. The six 3-pointers matched a career high for Quevedo as she made 6 of 7 against Gardner-Webb on Feb. 3.

Radford's defense shined in the second half as the Highlanders held High Point to a 17.6 field goal percentage, making only 6 of 34 attempts after shooting 46.2 percent in the opening 20 minutes.

With the defensive performance, Radford has held five straight opponents under 50 points, improving to 12-1 on the season when doing so.

The Highlanders went into the locker room trailing 30-27 after High Point used a 15-5 run to regain the lead in the second quarter. High Point's lead was sparked by Emma Bockrath as she tallied 10 of her 14 first half points in the quarter. Bockrath finished with a game-high 20 points on 9 of 23 shooting.

High Point made 12 of 26 attempts in the first half, including a 7 for 13 showing in the hot second quarter. Despite commanding a 17-12 lead at one point in the first half, Radford committed 14 turnovers in the half as High Point turned them into 15 points.

Radford came out of the locker room fired up as the Highlanders scored the first seven points of the second half as Quevedo knocked down one of her five second half 3-pointers for a 34-30 lead, resulting in a lead that would not be given up.

The Highlanders ended the quarter on a 12-5 swing as Quevedo knocked down two more 3-pointers, while Jayda Worthy added one of her own as Radford commanded a 46-37 edge at the end of three quarters.

The duo combined for 17 of Radford's 19 points in the quarter, going 6 for 9 from the field. Quevedo chipped in with nine points and Worthy followed with eight of her 10 points in the quarter.

Radford's defense held High Point to only five points over an eight-minute span from the middle of the third quarter to the 7:55 mark in the fourth.

The Highlanders added three more 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, making 7 of 11 attempts in the second half. Destinee Walker and Quevedo connected for back-to-back 3-pointers to give Radford a 12-point (52-40) lead with 5:19 remaining in regulation. The double-digit lead was the first by either team in the game.

Lydia Rivers added six points in the final three minutes to finish with 12 in the game as Radford pulled away down the stretch for a 63-48 comeback victory.

QUOTABLE
  • "Once we settled down and made better decisions, our offense came together. We had way too many turnovers in the first half and High Point was able to get 15 points from our turnovers. The second half response was really good especially the third quarter. It was good that we faced adversity against a great opponent to remind our team how situations and spurts can be next week in the tournament. We responded well and this was a big road win for us." ~ Radford head coach Mike McGuire
