MEN’S GOLF TOPS 13 TEAMS, WINS PINEHURST INTERCOLLEGIATE



PINEHURST, N.C. – Beginning the third round only two strokes out of first place, the Radford men's golf team shot a 289 and moved up one spot to finish the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in first place on Sunday.

KEY STORYLINES
  • The team shot a 289 in the third round and finished with an 886 aggregate score.
  • The Highlanders finished one stroke better than Ball State, who had the best round three score (286), but ended with an 887.
  • Radford made the average shots and totaled a field-high 169 pars as a team, led by Peter Gasperini with 35.
  • Gasperini finished tied for third shooting a five-over (218) for the tournament. He shot even (71) on the final day of play. The third place finish is the best career finish for the junior.
  • Myles Creighton finished inside the top 10 after shooting four-over in the final round. He has now finished inside the top 10 in seven consecutive spring tournaments, dating back to 2016.
  • Creighton totaled an eight-over 221 for the tournament and finished in a tie for 10th.
  • Tyler Hull made a nine spot jump in round three shooting a par for the Highlanders on Sunday.
  • His 10-over (223) finish was good enough for 14th place. It's the best finish for the freshman.
  • Radford totaled 13 birdies on the final day of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, led by Hull with four, followed by Gasperini and Gareth Sargent with three each.
  • The last time the Highlanders medaled was in 2016-17 in the Wofford Invitational, but that was a two-round tournament.
  • The last three-round tournament the Highlanders won was the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate on March 24, 2015.
  • No play finished worse than 40th place for Radford. Only one other team in the field accomplished that feat.
