RADFORD SWEEPS SHAW 7-0 FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Inclement weather in the New River Valley moved Radford's scheduled home match with NCAA Division II Shaw into the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Tech. The site change did not affect the Highlanders as they improved to 5-0 in neutral site matches with a 7-0 victory over the Bears.

The shutout was the fourth on the season for the Highlanders, including the second straight, while improving their winning streak to four straight.

"We adjusted well in doubles and had really good starts, but we came out a little slow in singles," said head coach Rolando Vargas. "Once we got in the rhythm, we closed it out better. Now it's time to get ready for conference matches."

The Highlanders quick start to the match was led by a 6-0 victory by Alexandros Caldwell and Rodrigo Magalhaes in No. 2 doubles as the duo improved to 4-0 on the season.

The duo of Matko Varga and Michiel Meekers clinched the point with a 6-1 victory in No. 3 doubles. In the No. 1 spot, Robin Calais and Carlos Sala closed out doubles with a 6-2 victory.

Meekers opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Destiny Udofe in No. 1 singles, while Sala followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 5 singles to give Radford a 3-0 advantage. The win gives Meekers seven straight on the season.

Clinching the match point was the Big South's reigning player of the week as Caldwell defeated Oscar Del Granado 6-2, 6-4 in No. 1 singles for his eighth straight win. Calais followed Caldwell with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in No. 6 singles.

Radford swept the rest of singles play as Magalhaes battled for a 6-4, 7-6 win in No. 2 singles and Varga followed with a 6-4, 6-7, 10-6 victory of his own in No. 3 singles.

The Highlanders will open Big South play on Saturday with a 12 p.m., match against Winthrop.
