RADFORD, Va. – The Radford baseball team could only get four hits and walked eight batters, which led to an 8-2 loss on Saturday at Carter Memorial Stadium. The loss gave UNC Asheville the series win.

Hunter Williams earned the start for Radford and only allowed one run on one hit. That hit was a solo home run to left field that led off the second inning and put the Highlanders behind 1-0.

The Highlander offense erased the Williams mistake in the bottom half of the inning with a Matt Roth double to left center field. The doubled drove in Andrew Szamski, who reached base with a walk, and tied the game at one.

Williams settled in nicely and only allowed two walks over the final 4.2 innings. He left the game tied at one with two outs in the sixth. After the pitching change, back-to-back singles put runners at first and third for UNC Asheville. Tyler Serricchio continued with a single down the right field line that scored Carmine Pagano and gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.

After a strikeout ended the sixth inning the Bulldogs picked up where they left off and drew two walks to open the seventh inning. The walks came back to haunt Radford as Andrew Friedholm cleared the bases with a home run to right field that put UNC Asheville ahead, 5-1.

Radford cut the Bulldog lead to three in the eighth as Kyle Butler hit a one-out triple to right field and scored on a Colby Higgerson fly out to center field. One was all the Highlanders could get as a groundout to shortstop ended the inning.

The Bulldogs scored three more insurance runs in the top of the ninth and took an 8-2 lead as Radford walked two batters and hit one. UNC Asheville also had two hits in the inning and left two on base.

The Highlanders were able to get one aboard in the ninth as Will Harless drew an eight-pitch walk, but a groundout to second ended the game.
