RADFORD, Va. – Radford salvaged its Big South weekend opener with a 12-5 victory in the series finale as the win was highlighted by an 11-run fourth inning as the Highlanders tallied double-digit runs for the third time on the season.

Dropping the first two games of the series, Radford trailed 4-1 after three complete. UNC Asheville opened the game with a two-run home run off the bat of Brandon Lankford.

The Highlanders first run came on a Kyle Butler RBI single in the third. Butler finished his day 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Before the Highlander chaos ensued, UNC Asheville was able to tack on two more runs off of reliever Andrew Nardi on a bases loaded walk and sacrifice fly. Austin Ross came on to end the frame, finishing with three punch outs in 1.2 innings.

In the bottom of the fourth, Radford lashed out for 11 runs, which are the most in a single inning since a 16-8 win over Presbyterian on May 25, 2016 in the Big South Tournament. The Highlanders put up 10 runs in that contest.

Andrew Szamski led off inning with a solo shot on the first pitch he faced, driving the ball to straightaway center field. The Highlanders added another run on a Straton Podaras RBI double, while loading the bases on a Richard De la Cruz walk.

Radford proceeded to score three straight runs on a Carlin Christian hit by pitch with walks by Colby Higgerson and Butler.

Following the Bulldogs second pitching change of the inning, Radford tacked on two more runs off a Spencer Horwitz sac fly and Szamski double, the third Highlander double of the frame.

Leading 8-4, Radford added a run on a fielding error and wild pitch. De la Cruz and Christian closed out the inning with a pair of RBI singles. Christian tallied two RBIs in the inning.

Ballooning the lead to 12-4, Radford tallied its 11 runs on seven hits and three walks, while stranding two runners on base.

After Ross efficiently took care of the Bulldogs, Mack Krupp came in for two quiet innings of work, where he held the Bulldogs to just one run on one hit.

The Bulldogs pitching staff held the Highlanders to a single hit over the final four frames, after giving up seven in the fourth inning.

Szamski, who collected two hits in the fourth inning, went 4 for 5 with a double, home run and two RBIs for a powerful stat line.

To cap off the day, Grayson Lamb fired two scoreless innings, striking out five of the seven batters he faced. Lamb allowed only one ball to be put in play as he appeared in only his second collegiate game
