FARMVILLE, Va. – The Radford softball team fell victim to a one-run loss on Sunday against Longwood and was unable to avoid the series sweep in a 1-0 loss.

Longwood had four hits in the entire game and only one extra base hit. The extra base hit was the one that did the damage in the fifth inning. Glenn Walters led off the inning with a walk and was bunted over to second on a sacrifice. Jordan Clark hit the ball in the gap to right center field for the two-bagger that drove in the go-ahead run and gave the Lancers a 1-0 lead. Clark advanced to third, but a groundout and lineout ended the inning for Longwood.

Radford began the first inning with single and followed it up with a double in the second inning. Hannah Medlam, who hit the double, made it to third on a sacrifice. However, she wouldn't get any further as the inning ended on a lineout to right field.

In the third inning, Radford had back-to-back singles with one out but a strikeout and a groundout to Leah Powell at shortstop ended the threat with two runners on base. After not getting any runners aboard in the fourth, Gagliano was able to get into scoring position but fly out ended the inning.

Down 1-0, the Highlanders fought and got a one-out single from Maggie Rowe. Although back-to-back fly outs to center field ended the threat and Radford left their sixth runner on base.

Radford was able to get the go ahead run on base as Gagliano hit a single to left field that advanced Brianna Mills into scoring position with two outs, but a Sofia Tapia groundout to Destiny Martinez at second base gave the Lancers the victory for the series sweep.
