RADFORD PICKS UP 5-2 VICTORY OVER DELAWARE

RADFORD, Va. – Radford picked up its seventh win in the last nine matches as the Highlanders handed Delaware a 5-2 loss on Friday afternoon to improve to 8-4 on the year.
 
Playing only its third home match, Radford improved its home clip to 2-1. The Highlanders still have five home matches remaining on the schedule.

"Today our doubles helped set the tone for the rest of the match. Alex, Michiel and Matko have kept being resilient. Robin has made tremendous improvement as well," said head coach Rolando Vargas. "Delaware is a solid team. Yet, we still have some matches where we need to close out better."

 
Radford dominated doubles play, taking all three matches. Carlos Sala and Matko Varga opened with a 6-1 win in No. 3 doubles.
 
The duo of Rodrigo Magalhaes and Alexandros Caldwell clinched the point with a 6-3 victory in the No. 1 spot. With the win, the tandem improves to 7-0 on the season.
 
Michiel Meekers and Robin Calais finished off the doubles with a 7-5 decision in No. 2 doubles. Taking all three doubles matches, Radford improved to 23-12 in doubles on the year.
 
Calais followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win in No. 6 singles to start Radford off with a 2-0 lead. Varga continued the Highlander dominance in No. 3 singles, picking up a 6-2, 6-3 win. The win improved the sophomore to 9-3 in singles action.
 
Radford clinched the match in No. 1 singles as Caldwell moved to 11-1 in singles play with a 6-0, 6-4 victory in No. 1 singles. Caldwell has won his last 10 singles matches.
 
Joining Caldwell in singles play success was Meekers as he improved to 10-2 on the year. Caldwell won Radford's seventh straight match on the day, taking a 6-3, 7-5 decision in No. 4 singles.
 
Delaware's two wins on the day came in No. 2 and No. 5 singles.
 
Radford will play Liberty on Saturday and Longwood on Sunday as the Highlanders will wrap up its weekend with Big South play in the Commonwealth.
