RADFORD FALLS 4-3 TO LONGWOOD

FARMVILLE, Va. – Radford dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Commonwealth foe Longwood Sunday afternoon in Big South action as the Highlanders wrapped up their three straight weekend matches.

After Longwood took No. 3 doubles, Radford fought back to take the next two doubles matches. Michiel Meekers and Robin Calais evened doubles with a 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles.

The Highlanders took the doubles point as the tandem of Alexandros Caldwell and Rodrigo Magalhaes improved to 9-0 in doubles play as they picked up a hard fought 7-5 decision in No. 1 doubles.

Longwood took the first four singles matches to claim the match victory.

Magalhaes improved his win streak to two straight, moving to 8-6 overall as he picked up a big win over No. 1 Amadeo Blasco 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4). Calais ended the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in No. 6 singles, joining Magalhaes with a 2-1 clip in Big South play.

"Rodrigo beat a player that was ranked in November and was a Big South Freshman of the Year," said head coach Rolando Vargas. "The loss snapped an eight-match win streak for Longwood's single-season wins leader, whose singles record remains a program-best 25-5."

Radford returns to Big South play on Thursday, hosting Campbell for a 3 p.m., match.
