HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Radford women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-5 decision to No. 25 High Point, opening Big South play at Vert Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Highlanders (3-7, 0-1 Big South) kept it close early. After back-to-back goals by High Point's Abby Hormes opened the scoring, junior midfielder Callie Bonnel continued her strong season with a goal to cut the deficit in half.

Then when it looked like the Panthers (7-2, 1-0 Big South) may pull away early, taking a 4-1 lead off two goals from Brooke Stevens, Bonnel answered once again and this time it was off a free position shot with 18:18 to go before halftime.

High Point took over from there however, scoring nine straight goals to take a 13-2 lead into the break.

The second half was Adrian Rius' time to shine, as the junior attacker netted a hat trick with three goals between the 26:36 and 10:15 marks.

It wasn't enough to stymie the Panthers though, as the Big South's first ever nationally ranked team showed why they're highly thought of. They scored eight more goals in the second half including five in the final nine minutes to earn the victory on their home turf.

Sophomore goalie Jenny Davis did everything in her power to keep Radford in it, marking 10 saves in the cage. It's her third straight game and seventh overall with double-digit saves this season.

Just two days after breaking the single-game program record with 10 draw control wins, Rius was strong once again, recording nine on Saturday to give the Highlanders an 18-10 advantage over HPU in the statistical category.
