ATHENS, Ga. – Radford ended the Bulldog Classic on Sunday with a valiant comeback effort that fell just short in a 6-5 loss to Jacksonville State at Jack Turner Stadium. The Highlanders will have a quick turnaround in Tallahassee, Fla., and face Florida A&M in a doubleheader Monday that was moved up from Tuesday due to impending weather in the forecast.

After falling behind 3-0 early to Jacksonville State, the Highlanders tied the game up in the fifth and once more in the top of the seventh, but dropped the heartbreaker on a walk-off single by Alexus Jimmerson in the seventh.

Jimmerson, who started as the JSU pitcher, was at the plate with the bases loaded and no outs in the seventh inning and found open space up the middle that gave the Gamecocks a 6-5 walk-off win.

Down, 5-3 in the top of the frame, the Highlanders tied the game forcing the two teams to play the last half of the seventh. Talia Douglas reached on an infield single with two outs and moved to third on a Maggie Rowe single to right field. Douglas scored in the next at-bat on a wild pitch cutting the deficit to one, 5-4.

The game became tied at five when pinch-runner, Sienna Williams, scored on a wild pitch before a strikeout ended the top half of the seventh with a runner on second.

Radford fell behind in the first inning as an RBI double to right field by Amber Jones plated two moments after an RBI single from Anna Chisolm drove in the first run of the game. The inning ended with JSU scoring three runs on three hits.

The Highlanders wouldn't back down and tied the game at three in the fifth inning with one swing of the bat from Sofia Tapia. Along with herself, Tapia drove in Callie Morgan, who reached on a single, and Marissa Gagliano who had a two-out a double to left center.

Jacksonville State regained the lead with a home run to begin the bottom of the fifth inning and extended the lead to 5-3 with a double off the bat of Taylor Beshears that scored Chisolm.
