RADFORD TAKES TWO IN TALLAHASSEE OVER FLORIDA A&M

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Radford softball team took two in Tallahassee against Florida A&M on Monday night at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex. The first was a 9-1 victory in six innings; while the second was a 5-2 win in 11 innings.

GAME ONE
The first game began with Hunter Mundy driving in a run in the first inning with a single up the middle. The Highlanders scored later in the third inning with four runs. Talia Douglas singled up the middle and the stole second. Maggie Rowe drove her in with a base hit up the middle.

Mundy drove in two more runs in the inning with a double down the left field line. The two-run double gave Radford a 4-0 lead. Marissa Gagliano drove in Mundy, the final run of the inning, with a single that made the game 5-0.

After a scoreless fourth, the Highlanders picked up two more runs on a groundout and an errant throw by the Rattler shortstop, repsectively.

Radford set the eight run rule into effect with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. The eighth run of the game scored on a ground ball to the second baseman, while the ninth run came on a Lauren Maddrey single that scored Callie Morgan.

Florida A&M scored one in the bottom of the sixth, but Mack Woodard kept the bat on her shoulder looking at a game-ending called strike three.

GAME TWO

With the game tied at two in the top of the 11th, Brianna Mills came up clutch with her only hit of the game. The lone hit for the freshman was a bases clearing triple that drove in two and gave Radford a 4-2 lead. Mills scored on the ensuing bat as Callie Morgan hit a deep fly ball to right field that drove her in for the 5-2 lead.

The game went into extra innings as neither team could score over six innings, but Marissa Gagliano gave Radford a 2-1 lead in the 10th with a single to center field that plated Morgan. However, Florida A&M tied the game with an RBI single from Lauren Williams in the bottom half of the inning. On the same play, Taylor Rosier was looking to score the game-winning run from second but once again Mills came up clutch throwing a dart out of right field to get Rosier at the plate.

Sofia Tapia bombed a ball over the left field fence in the first inning that gave Radford an early 1-0 lead, but the Rattlers tied it at one in the second inning with Williams' first RBI of the game – a double that plated Alexis Day.
