RADFORD FALLS TO NORTH FLORIDA ON WEDNESDAY

GAME INFORMATION
  • Score: North Florida 5, Radford 1
  • Records: Ospreys (13-9) | Highlanders (14-8)
  • Location: UNF Softball Complex | Jacksonville, Fla.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Radford scored the first run of the game, but North Florida scored five unanswered as the Highlanders fell to the Ospreys, 5-1, on Wednesday night at UNF Softball Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.

Maggie Rowe, who had a 2-for-3 night, drove in the only run the Highlanders scored and it came in the third inning. Marissa Gagliano hit the ball into the left center field gap and was aboard with a stand-up double. Sofia Tapia, the next batter, reached with an infield single and moved Gagliano over the third. After a groundout, Rowe singled through the right side and scored Gagliano that gave Radford a 1-0 lead. The third out of the inning came from Osprey right fielder, Ashley Niesman, who threw out Tapia trying to score from second.

In the bottom half of the frame, Dominica Cocuzza tied the game at one with a deep fly ball out that scored Navia Penrod. The Ospreys took a 3-1 advantage in the fourth inning as the go-ahead run scored on a Highlander error and the other came on an RBI single from Megan Woodson.

Radford had at least one base runner in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Highlanders had a runner in scoring position in the sixth inning. However, they stranded two as a lineout and a groundout ended the threat.

UNF took advantage of the Highlanders leaving a couple of runners on base and scored the final two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Ospreys scored their final two runs of the game on sacrifice flies –one to center field and the other to left field.

The Highlanders went down in order in the seventh.
