WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Radford snapped its five-game skid with a strong pitching performance from the duo of Hunter Williams and Austin Ross as the Highlanders added a run in the eighth inning for a 2-1 victory over William & Mary on Tuesday afternoon.

Williams and Ross combined to yield only one run on six hits, while striking out six and walking only one batter. The freshman Williams made his third start of the season, retiring 13 out of 15 batters at one point. Ross came out of the bullpen in the seventh, giving up his only hit in the eighth, a leadoff single.

Clayton Baine gave Radford an early 1-0 lead as he led off the fifth with a double down the line, advancing to third one batter later on a wild pitch. Following a Garrett Matheny walk, Colby Higgerson dropped down a sacrifice bunt to plate Baine.

Cruising along, Williams got touched up in the sixth as Matt McDermott led off the inning with a double, advancing to third on the throw. McDermott scored one batter later as Nick Butts lifted a sac fly to center field.

The Highlanders game winning run came in the eighth as Matheny led off the frame with a single into center field. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, Higgerson put down another sac bunt to move Matheny to third base. Matheny would score on a Kyle Butler fielders' choice as he made the Tribe infield make a decision on where to throw the ball, resulting in the run needed for Ross.
