RADFORD, Va. – Charleston Southern forced a Sunday rubber match after a three-run home run in the sixth and holding Radford's offense without a hit for the final six frames in a 3-1 Saturday afternoon victory.

In a game that took only two hours and 19 minutes to play, Tyler Weekly and Austin Ross locked into a pitchers' duel early in the contest despite early hits.

Radford's offense touched Weekly up for five hits in the first three frames, including two in the second and third. After stranding two runners in the second, Radford struck first in the third inning.

Carlin Christian led off the inning with an infield single to third, moving to second on a Buccaneer throwing error. Kyle Butler followed with a walk and a wild pitch allowed Christian to move into third. With runners on the corners, Spencer Horwitz lined a ball toward first base that knocked off Aaron Miller's glove. However, the ball landed in front of Miller for the unassisted ground out.

With two runners in scoring position, Matt Roth blooped a single into shallow right-center field for his 17th RBI in the last 12 games and the early Radford edge. The Highlanders were unable to plate the two runners with one out, stranding five in the first three frames.

Weekly settled into a groove as he allowed only two base runners over his next four innings, striking out six Highlanders in his seven-inning performance to pick up his second win of 2018.

Charleston Southern squandered an early opportunity to score as the Buccaneers put two runners on with two outs in the opening inning with a single and a double. Ross worked out of the jam and held the Bucs without a hit until the sixth inning.

Striking out five batters in six innings, Ross got into trouble after two quick outs to start the sixth. Following a walk, Christian Maggio singled down the right field line to put two runners on base. Driving in three runs on Friday night, Ryan Stoudemire struck again as he launched a first pitch fastball over the left field fence to give Charleston Southern the 3-1 lead.

In the sixth inning, Charleston Southern totaled four straight base hits, tallying only eight hits in the ballgame.

Charleston Southern's bullpen retired all six Highlanders it faced as Cody Smith picked up his sixth save by striking out the side in the ninth as Buc pitchers punched out nine in the win.
