RADFORD, Va. – Austin Ross struck out eight Presbyterian batters in 5.2 innings to earn his Big South leading seventh win as the Highlanders clinched their fourth straight conference series with an 8-4 decision over the Blue Hose on Saturday afternoon.

Despite two early Presbyterian runs in the first on a fielders' choice and single, Ross went to work on the mound after the Highlanders answered back with five runs.

The Highlanders knotted the game in the bottom half as Luke Wise led off the game with a walk, swiping second and moving to third on a throwing error off the steal. Following a Spencer Horwitz walk, Matt Roth singled through the right side for the first run of the game and his 29th RBI.

With runners on the corners, Colby Higgerson placed his eighth sacrifice bunt down the first base line, scoring Horwitz for his 22nd RBI.

Radford continued to swing hot bats early as Wise put down another Highlander sac bunt with runners on the corners for his first RBI since March 4. Horwitz followed with a two-run single for his second straight two-RBI performance of the series, increasing his 2018 total to 31.

Receiving a 5-2 lead, Ross retired seven straight until stranding two base runners in the fifth inning. With the eight strikeouts, the redshirt senior has struck out five-plus in his last four starts. Ross finished with three innings of two strikeouts.

Radford built the lead to four runs in the fourth as Kyle Butler lined a single down the left field for the first of his three RBIs on the day.

The sixth inning saw Presbyterian plate its final two runs on a RBI single and ground out. Following the two runs surrendered by Ross, Cameron Fritz entered out of the Radford bullpen.

Fritz tossed 3.1 frames of perfect baseball, retiring all 10 batters he faced, totaling a strikeout for his second collegiate save and first on the season.

Radford's final two runs came off the bat of Butler as he was the only Highlander to finish with two hits on the day, while driving in three runs.

The redshirt junior added a run in the sixth on a RBI single and the final run in the eighth on a sac fly to cap off the 8-4 series clinching win.
