RADFORD STARTS STRONG AT BIG SOUTH T&F CHAMPIONSHIP

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Radford track & field team got off to a great start at the 2018 Big South Outdoor Championship on Wednesday, picking up eight points and qualifying for a pair of finals behind several personal records.

Sophomores Tenae Washington and Kierra Henderson set the tone for the Highlanders with fifth and six place finishes respectively in the long jump. Henderson was the first to achieve a huge PR, reaching 5.44 meters (17'10.25") to beat her previous best of 5.30 meters. Washington then passed her and several other athletes with her PR of 5.50 meters (18'0.25") to crush her previous best of 5.27 meters.

Radford earned another point in the javelin thanks to sophomore Anastasia Kramer. Her throw of 32.30 meters (106') was good enough for an eighth place finish even after competing in the discus throw earlier in the day.

Washington finished off her great day in the 400-meter hurdles, winning her preliminary heat and clinching a spot in Friday's finals with a time of 1:01.19. Teammate Alaina Pagliaro just missed out on joining Washington in the finals with a PR of 1:05.01, but she was edged out and placed ninth in the end.

The 200-meter dash was Radford's final event of day one in High Point and it was a good one. Sophomore La'Tisha Chambers won her heat and qualified for Friday's finals, crossing the finish line with a PR time of 24.39 seconds. Freshman Amelia Reynolds then punched her ticket to the finals as well with a time of 24.55 seconds.

Thursday's action begins with Washington representing the Highlanders in the high jump at 11 am. Kramer continues her tour of the throws events with the shot put at 4 p.m. followed by the day's running events between 4 p.m. and 6:35 p.m.
