RADFORD STUMBLES ON RAINY NIGHT AT CUPP STADIUM

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's soccer team battled for all 90 minutes, but two second half goals were too much to overcome in a 2-0 loss to Campbell at Cupp Stadium on Saturday night.

It was a quiet start to what eventually became a fiercely competitive Big South contest as expected. Senior forward Khori Bennett registered the lone shot for either side through the first 20 minutes and both teams went into the halftime break with three shots apiece as the scoreboard remained empty.

The Camels (5-2, 2-0 BSC) managed to break through in the 59th minute following a Radford (0-5, 0-1 BSC) foul. A curling ball was sent into the six-yard box where redshirt freshman goalkeeper Dimitrios Valkanos was waiting to punch it away. The ball then took an unfortunate bounce to JJ Donnelly who connected with Michael Barrow for a header goal.

Campbell then doubled its lead in the 80th minute, this time off the foot of Donnelly. Gabe Parrish sent a pass down the right sideline where Bastien Oberli picked it up and dribbled forward before finding Donnelly across the field. A Radford defender slipped on the wet playing surface and the preseason Big South Co-Attacking Player of the Year had plenty of room to hit a low strike into the back of the net.

The Highlanders matched their season high with 10 shots attempted – five in each half – but the Camels held an 11-to-5 advantage in the second half alone. Bennett led the team with three while Amadou Macky Diop and Victor Valls were just behind with two shots apiece.
