TRACK & FIELD OPENS SEASON AT VIRGINIA TECH INVITATIONAL

RADFORD, Va. – The track & field season is officially here as the women open the season in Blacksburg to compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

SETTING THE STAGE
Meet: Virginia Tech Invitational
Location: Blacksburg, Va. (Rector Fieldhouse)
Time: 5 p.m. (Friday) / 11 a.m. (Saturday)

TEAMS PARTICIPATING
Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Radford, UNC-Charlotte, North Carolina A&T, Campbell, Norfolk State, VCU, UNC-Greensboro, Winthrop, Towson and Roanoke College.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
Radford looks to have a great season and is led by junior La'Tisha Chambers and sophomore Taylor Tinsley. Chambers was a member of the 4x400 team that finished second in the Big South Championships. Tinsley looks to build on her second year after a strong freshman campaign.

RADFORD IN THE PRESEASON POLLS
Radford was picked to finish fifth in the Big South Indoor Preseason Poll. The Highlanders garnered 48 total points, just two behind Charleston Southern, who took the fourth spot in the poll. 48 points is 20 more than the Highlanders tallied last season when they were projected to finish sixth.

LAST YEARS SUCCESS
After a strong finish to close out the indoor season last year, the Highlanders look to build off that success. Sophomore Karryngton Harrison recorded three personal records a season ago in the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, which gave the Highlanders some confidence heading into the conference championships. She won the gold medal in the 60-meter hurdles and helped Radford solidify fourth in the conference finale.
