CHAMBERS TYING SCHOOL RECORD HIGHLIGHTS DAY ONE OF VIRGINIA TECH INVITATIONAL

BLACKSBURG, Va.La'Tisha Chambers tied the school record for the 60m dash with a 7.65 mark, which highlighted the first day of competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational inside the Rector Fieldhouse on Friday evening.

It was the second event of the 2019 season and Chambers was off when the gun fired. She finished 7.65 seconds later, which was a personal record and tied the school record. The time was originally set by Khadijah Conda in 2001 and was last seen in 2014 when Lakei Crews tied in at the Big South Championships.

The night began with the 60m hurdles. Freshman Emilie Miller finished inside the top four in her heat, which placed her in the finals. She ended the night with a 9.05 time in the finals.

Kayland Bond and Annsley Eckert competed in the one mile. Both Highlanders finished inside the top four in their section with Bond finishing second and Eckert coming in fourth. Bond finished with a PR 5:24.11 time and a top 10 finish.

Bond and Eckert followed up their one mile performance with PRs in the 1,000m. Bond finished with a 3:12.16, while Eckert placed a 3:14.86 on the result sheet.

Ryan Paine stepped up in a big way in the 500m. She finished with a big-time PR, shaving almost two seconds off. She finished the competition with a 1:18.89 and topped her previous time at the Keydet Invitational in January of last season.

Following right behind was Karah Foster, who cut her PR by almost three seconds. She also held her previous personal record at 1:22.70, which was set at the Keydet Invitational last year. Her new PR was set on Friday with a 1.19.30 and a seventh place finish.

Chambers also set a personal record in the 300m by cutting .01 seconds off her previous PR, which was set in 2016. She finished the best out of any Highlander in the event. Sophomores Alexis Stafford and Chancey Gunnell also competed in the 300m.
