HIGHLANDERS CRUISE PAST CHARLESTON SOUTHERN TO PROVIDE MIKE McGUIRE WITH 100TH WIN AT RADFORD

RIVERS, NUNLEY & FELGEMACHER ALL RECORD DOUBLE-DOUBLES

Charleston, S.C. – The Radford women's basketball team defeated the Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Tuesday evening, 67-41, providing sixth-year Highlander head coach Mike McGuire with his 100th career victory with the program. Radford improved to 4-1 in the Big South Conference and 10-6 overall.

"It's really cool to be a part of this program and I told the team that this milestone is about people," said McGuire. "A lot of people who work hard and student-athletes who come here to make this program better. I am very honored and blessed to be the head coach at Radford. I believe it is a great institution and 100 wins goes back to a lot of people that have made women's basketball so important here."

McGuire is the fourth Highlander coach to win 100 games and is the second-fastest to the accomplishment behind Radford graduate and Athletic Hall of Famer Charlene Curtis (1984-1990).

All three of the Highlanders' key frontcourt players posted double-doubles on the historic evening. Redshirt junior forward Lydia Rivers paced the team with 12 points and 13 rebounds for her second straight double-double and fifth of the season. Redshirt junior center Sydney Nunley registered her seventh consecutive double-double with 10 points and 12 caroms and classmate Savannah Felgemacher returned to action with 11 points and 10 boards in 15 minutes off the bench. Felgemacher, who missed the last six contests, now has five double-doubles.

Junior guard Khiana Johnson added 10 points and recorded her 700th career point while senior guard/forward Destinee Walker also scored 10 points. Redshirt junior guard Jen Falconer came off the bench for the first time in her career and recorded a season-high six assists.

Radford held Charleston Southern (4-12, 1-4 BSC) to a 23.8 percent shooting clip as the Bucs made just 15-of-63 attempts, including 1-for-15 (6.7 percent) from behind the arc.

The hosts took their final lead of the game at 7-5 after a free throw by Ke'Asia Jackson at the 5:52 mark of the opening quarter.

The Highlanders scored the final 12 points of the frame to grab a 17-7 lead at the end of the quarter.  Felgemacher drilled a right-corner 3 to give the visitors the lead for good to open the run at the 5:24 mark. Walker scored five points during the stretch and Nunley added a pair of jumpers.

Radford continued to pull away in the second quarter as they took their largest lead of the half at 25-9 with 6:45 left after a jumper by Rivers. Charleston Southern closed out the quarter on a 8-3 run to inch within 28-17 at the break.

Shelby Wilbanks converted a layup to start the third quarter, pulling the Buccaneers within single-figures for the final time in the contest.

The Highlanders answered with a 15-6 run over the next seven minutes to take their largest lead of the game at 43-25 with 2:24 left in the third.  Johnson ignited the stretch with back-to-back buckets and Rivers contributed six points during the burst.

The hosts were unable to get any closer than 15 points for the remainder of the contest.

Radford will travel to Longwood on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
