HIGHLANDERS CONTINUE TO IMPROVE WITH GOOD FIRST DAY AT HOKIE INVITATIONAL

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford track & field team continued to build on its early season success with a strong showing on the first day of the 2019 Hokie Invitational at Rector Field House.

Junior La'Tisha Chambers and freshman Denisha Hoosier were the first Highlanders to post big times on the day, setting the tone in the 60-meter dash. Chambers crossed the finish line in 7.67 seconds which ranks as the fifth-fastest time in program history while Hoosier ran a PR of 7.87 seconds, a solid improvement on her time of 7.95 seconds from last weekend.

A trio of freshman throwers each recorded personal records in the weight throw as well. Tayelor Thrasher-Walker led the way with a distance of 15.04 meters (49'4.25") with Madison Graham reaching 12.06 meters (39'6.75") and Mary Brown hitting 10.66 meters (34'11.75").

Rounding out Radford's PR's on Friday was sophomore Alexis Stafford who improved upon her time of 43.08 in last weekend's 300-meter dash with a 42.92 this time out.

Sophomore Annsley Eckert came close to a PR of her own in the mile, finishing the grueling race with a time of 5:23.83 that just missed the 5:22.75 she ran at the 2018 Keydet Invitational. The Lynchburg, Va. native also ran in the 3,000-meter run alongside teammate Kayland Bond later in the day.

UP NEXT
The final day of the Hokie Invitational will begin on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the women's high jump before concluding around 3:20 p.m. following the 4x400-meter relays.
