SIROUS AND MAGALHAES AMAZE AT ITA ALL-AMERICAN

TULSA, Okla. – Radford's doubles team of Yevhen Sirous and Rodrigo Magalhaes upended a top 20 doubles team and put up great showings against a handful of SEC opponents en route to a stellar ITA All-American Championship with matches spanning from Wednesday through Saturday.

WEDNESDAY
The doubles pair opened the national tournament with a spectacular showing coming up just short against Florida, the #4 ranked doubles team in the nation. The final score of the match ended up 7-5, 7-5 with Radford competing hard in both sets. Both teams traded games back and forth leading to a see-saw match. Sirous and Magalhaes would tie it up 5-5 in both sets before dropping the last two games. The loss would lead the Highlanders to the consolation bracket which would extend the pair's matches through the week.

THURSDAY
The second day of the tournament was a short one for Sirous and Magalhaes, as their opponent Texas A&M (the #1 seed in the consolation bracket) withdrew from doubles competition leading to a day off for the Highlanders and a ticket to the quarterfinals.

FRIDAY
The competition didn't let up as the next opponent on the docket wound up being California, the #16 ranked doubles team in the nation. Like Wednesday's action, weather forced the competition indoors. The Highlanders turned their Wednesday misfortune into victory with an intense 7-5, 4-6, 1-0(8) final score. After going back and forth with the opponent again in the first set leading to another 5-5 score, it was the Highlanders picking up two games in a row to seal a victory in the first set. The Bears didn't go quietly winning the second set and battling the Highlanders into the third super set tiebreaker.  After taking a 9-4 lead in the tiebreaker, California stormed back to make it 9-8. It was Radford who came out on top thanks to clutch play by Sirous and Magalhaes. The win advanced the Highlanders to the semifinals set for Saturday and their third match up with an SEC opponent.

SATURDAY
Georgia and Radford matched up against each other for the consolation bracket semifinal. It wound up being the final match for the Highlanders on the weekend, ending their stellar showing. The Highlanders looked strong after going up 3-1 in the first set, but the Bulldogs responded winning three straight games and eventually the first set 6-4. Magalhaes and Sirous continued to battle but would come up short 6-2 in the second set, ending their tournament run. The duo battled hard and made history for the Highlanders the entire tournament.

UP NEXT
Radford will take a couple days to regroup before heading to Charlottesville to compete in the ITA Regionals.
