 MEN'S SOCCER
 

vs. USC Upstate – Wednesday, Oct. 14 @ 7 p.m.
Where: Radford, Va. (Cupp Stadium)

  • Radford is looking to pick up back-to-back conference victories after two first-half goals led the team to a road victory over UNC Asheville last Saturday.
  • This is only the third ever matchup between the two squads, with last year's big south conference match being the most recent game that Radford took on the road. Before that, the two teams met in Radford in 2007 which Radford took in a close 2-1 victory.
  • Radford and USC Upstate have just one common foe this season in Coastal Carolina. Both teams traveled for the match up, with USC Upstate winning their match and Radford dropping theirs.
  • Freshman Octavio Ocampo has been a workhorse for the Highlanders, playing in 1022 minutes and scoring three goals and two assists (eight points), including the game-winning goal against UNC Asheville.
  • Pape Oumar Gueye has been the helping had for many of Radford's goals this season, leading the team and the Big South with six assists. Gueye also scored the opening goal in Radford's 2-1 win over UNC Asheville.
  • The Highlanders have been keeping the competition quiet and keeping games close averaging 1.75 goals allowed per game which is fifth best in the conference.
  • USC Upstate has a similar goals against average compared to the Highlanders, sitting at 1.73 goals per game.
  • Pol Monells leads the Spartans in shots taken this season with 30 (2.73 per game), which is also third most in the Big South.
  • Freshman Pascal Corvino is the goal leader for USC Upstate, with three goals on just 11 shots.

  • Radford is looking to bounce back after a tough road loss against High Point on Saturday and get back on track for the latter-half of the Big South season.
  • The Highlanders and Lady Pirates have matched up just one time in the two teams' histories, coming last year in a Big South matchup where the Highlanders won, 2-0, on the road.
  • Radford and Hampton have three common foes this season in VMI, Elon and ETSU. Both teams won their matches against VMI and dropped their matches against Elon. Against ETSU, the Highlanders took a 2-0 victory while the Lady Pirates lost, 1-2.
  • This will be Hampton's first ever visit to Cupp Stadium as they are the only member of the Big South that has never visited before.
  • Junior Lily McLane leads Radford and ranks fifth in the Big South for assists this season with five, averaging 0.36 per game.
  • Courtenay Kaplan continues to be a wall in front of the net for Radford with 51 saves this season, good for an .850 save percentage which is second-best in the Big South.
  • The Highlanders have been finding a good home at the corners of the field this season, averaging 5.71 corner kicks per game which is second-best in the conference.
  • Hampton ranks last for the Big South in the categories of shots, goals and assists.
  • Goalkeeper Talia Klimes has been a reliable shot stopper this season for the Lady Pirates with 59 saves which is tied for fourth best in the conference.
 MEN'S TENNIS
 

at ITA Regionals – Thursday, Oct. 17 to Tuesday, Oct. 22
Where:
 Charlottesville, Va. (The Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center at the University of Virginia)
  • The Highlanders continue their fall season as they will group back together after Yevhen Sirous and Rodrigo Magalhaes' stellar performance at the ITA All-American Championships which ran from October 9th through October 13th.
  • Sirous and Magalhaes took down California (#16 doubles team in nation), while also playing competitive matches against Florida (#4 doubles team in nation) and Georgia (#41 doubles team in nation).
  • The Highlanders will compete in the Atlantic region for both doubles and singles competition. Finalists for the tournament will qualify for the season-ending Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
  • Freshman Demi Taramonlis and transfer Karl Katlaps will look to continue their success that they saw at the UNCG Hidden Duals, where they both picked up their first singles victories as Highlanders.
  • At the UNCG Hidden Duals, five of eight Radford players took singles victories against Big South foe Campbell.
