 VOLLEYBALL
 

vs. USC Upstate – Friday, Oct. 25th @ 6 p.m.

  • Radford is back home after four straight road matches for a trio of matches at home. 
  • Radford split their last road trip, sweeping Gardner-Webb 3-0 and falling in a tight match 3-1 against Winthrop.
  • The freshman duo of Hailey Flowers and Esmadar Taveras set season-highs for kills at 12 each against Gardner-Webb.
  • Maddie Lentz and Jordan Coomes also combined for 34 assists against Gardner-Webb.
  • Radford now ranks fifth in the conference for service aces with 96 over 69 sets, with the team being led by Coomes who's totaled 17 aces.
  • USC Upstate are coming off back-to-back losses against UNC Asheville and Limestone
  • The Spartans are led by redshirt junior Emily Russell who has tallied 99 kills (3 per set) including a team-best 39 total blocks (1.18 per set). 
  • USC Upstate averages 13.42 digs per set, while Radford averages 14.13 per set.
  • UNC Asheville will visit the High Point Panthers before taking on the Highlanders. 
  • The Bulldogs are just 2-5 on the road compared to their 5-2 record at home.
  • A trio of Bulldogs have record over 100 kills this season, with senior Julia Borges totaling 163 this season which is ninth best in the conference.
  • Radford is currently tied for seventh in the standings with USC Upstate, with UNC Asheville just ahead of the Highlanders placing fifth in the standings.

  • The regular season is winding down as Radford will close it out with two home matches, the first set against the current conference leader High Point.
  • The Highlanders are coming off a tough road loss against ranked Clemson earlier this week where they set their season-high in saves at nine.
  • Octavio Ocampo, Mouhameth Thiam, and Victor Valls have each scored three goals this season.
  • Pape Oumar Gueye is second in the Big South Conference with six assists this season.
  • High Point shoots at a higher rate like Radford, averaging 12.47 shots a game while Radford averages 11.73.
  • The Panthers only score 1.13 goals a game, but their goalkeeping is headed by Keegan Meyer's conference-best .779 save percentage, which leads the team to just allowing an average of one goal a game.
  • The Panthers are second in the conference in shutouts, recording seven and most recently shutting out Duke on the road.
  • In their current four game winning streak, High Point has outscored their opposition 6-1.

  • The Highlanders will close out the 2019 regular season with a big road match against a tough Buccaneers squad.
  • This will be the third consecutive year Radford closes out it's season against Charleston Southern, going 2-0 in the season finale over that time.
  • In the most recent win over Gardner-Webb, Nelia Perez delivered her ninth goal of the year in the opening minutes assisted by Brianna Oliver. 50 minutes later that same duo flipped roles for Oliver to get her third goal of the year off Perez's assist.
  • In their last three matches the Highlanders are outscoring their competition 6-1.
  • Radford's 27 goals are fourth best in the conference this season thanks to the combination of Perez and Gabi Paupst who have totaled 17.
  • The Highlanders 5-4 road record is second best in the conference just behind Campbell, while Charleston Southern has a 4-6 record at home.
  • Charleston Southern currently sits in eighth place in the Big South standings with a 3-4-2 conference record.
  • The Buccaneers are on a hot streak carrying four straight wins into their season finale, scoring 16 goals over that span and just allowing six.
  • Earlier this season the Buccaneers had three straight overtime matches against the best of the Big South, losing just one of those matches to Presbyterian
  • 11 different Buccaneers have recorded a goal this season, with freshman Zari Hayes leading the way with six.

 
 MEN'S TENNIS
 

at Big South Fall Invitational
Friday, Oct. 25 - Sunday, Oct. 27
Where: Clinton, S.C. 
  • Radford continues its packed fall schedule with a trip into Big South territory to start it's defense of the 2019 title.
  • The Highlanders are coming off a strong showing at the ITA Regionals last week, with the doubles pair Rodrigo Magalhaes and Yevhen Sirous lasting the longest in the tournament beating two opponents in the main draw and lasting until the third day in the tournament.
  • Freshman Demi Taramonlis continued his strong play with a singles victory over Mount St. Mary's and teaming up with Andres Silva for a big comeback doubles win over Longwood.
  • Karl Katlaps also took down fellow Big South foe Hampton 4-6, 6-2, 14-12 to notch what was four singles victories for the Highlanders in the first day of the tournament.
  • Katlaps and William Crane also took home two doubles wins against Morgan State and Howard.

 
 WOMEN'S TENNIS
 

at ITA Regionals
Where: Blacksburg, Va. (Dedmon Center) 
Series: Radford leads, 4-0

  • After a couple weeks off the Highlanders are back in Blacksburg for the ITA Regionals featuring teams from across the Atlantic Region.
  • At the Hokie Invite, the Highlanders went 7-2 in singles matches against NRV rival Virginia Tech over the weekend.
  • Junior Anastasia Belyaeva came up with a big 8-2 doubles victory against Virginia Tech teaming up with Jeanine Acierto.
  • After a good showing at the Elon Invite, freshman Camryn McClure took a strong 6-2, 7-6(4) victory over her Marshall opponent
  • The tournament will be the penultimate for the Highlanders fall season, as they have just one competition left at the Wofford Invite in early November
