HIGHLANDERS NOTCH QUALITY OUTING AT WAKE FOREST FALL INVITATIONAL

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Radford traveled to Winston-Salem this past weekend for its final fall tournament of the year, putting together multiple quality victories over a variety of power conference and local area foes. The weekend was highlighted by Andres Silva winning his entire flight in the C1 Bracket of the tournament.

FRIDAY
To kick off the weekend, Radford hit the courts for doubles matches. Rodrigo Magalhaes and Yevhen Sirous started it off but fell to Wake Forest. Silva and Demi Taramonlis were up next, and they took down their ACC foe Clemson 6-3 to move on in their bracket. William Crane and Karl Katlaps had a bye in the first round of their bracket, but immediately picked up action that morning against Tennessee Tech dropping their match 6-2.

Moving on to singles matches, Matko Varga started it off with a competitive 6-3, 6-2 loss to Mercer while Taramonlis won in a highly contested match against Wofford 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Silva also picked up a win in his early match against Richmond 6-4, 7-5. Both Crane and Katlaps took on opponents from Charlotte, with Crane dropping his match but Katlaps winning his 6-2, 6-1. Sirous then played in his first singles match of the day, defeating Davidson 6-4, 7-5.

After his early-morning victory, Taramonlis was right back on the court to face Clemson in a tough match that he wound up dropping 7-5, 6-2. Magalhaes also got in on his first singles action of the day with a strong win over Georgia State 6-3 7-6(4). Varga would also bounce back from his loss earlier to defeat Coastal Carolina 6-3, 6-3. Crane followed up with a bounce back win of his own against Duke, 7-6(6), 6-4. To finish off a long day, Katlaps took on Davidson and fell late in a closely contested match 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

SATURDAY
The Highlanders had a rough outing in doubles play to start Saturday, as the three duos lost their matches to Wake Forest, Richmond, and Georgia State. Moving on to singles play, Silva picked up where he left off with a strong win 7-5, 6-2 over Tennessee Tech. Sirous took his morning match 6-4, 7-6(4) against Stetson to move on to the quarterfinals of his bracket. Magalhaes would drop his match 6-1, 6-1 to North Carolina while Varga dropped his match 6-1, 6-1 to Wofford to finish off the early singles matches.

Crane started the afternoon with a comeback win against Richmond 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to move on to the finale in the west bracket for the F Singles matches. Sirous played a competitive, hard-fought match against Georgia State ultimately falling 7-5, 7-6(9), with Silva and Magalhaes finishing off their matches with victories over Richmond and Charlotte.

SUNDAY
Heading into the final day of the tournament, the doubles pair of Magalhaes and Sirous quickly took down Charlotte 6-3. Silva and Taramonlis also took care of business with a 6-3 victory over Tennessee Tech, while Crane and Katlaps dropped their final doubles match 5-7.

Starting off the final singles matches of the weekend was the freshman Taramonlis taking out Davison 6-2, 6-4. Silva then went on to finish his weekend strong, winning the flight finals in his bracket 6-2, 6-2 against Georgia State. Katlaps also notched a good victory against Clemson, winning 6-2, 7-6. In a close singles match for Magalhaes, he came up just short 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5) against Tennessee Tech. That wound up wrapping up a great weekend for the Highlanders.
