RADFORD FALLS TO ALABAMA BEHIND SECOND HALF RALLY

Khiana Johnson joins 1,000-point club

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.—Radford's first ever matchup against Alabama was hard fought as they entered halftime only trailing by one. The Crimson Tide pulled away from the Highlanders in the second half, to take the game at 85-51.

Strong performances from Khiana Johnson, Aiden Rainford, and Sydney Nunley set the pace for the offense. Johnson joined the 1,000-point club after a jumper at the 4:21 mark. Rainford put together an 11-point outing, setting a career high in that category. Nunley's 18 minutes provided 10 points and several rebounds.

Alabama scored 21 points to commence the opening quarter, to Radford's 12. Johnson scored the first points of the night and proceeded to be the primary scoring option down the stretch. She marked six of the Highlanders' 12 points.

Nunley opened the second with a layup in the paint, followed immediately by a Makaila Wilson three. Radford scored from every spot on the floor in this stanza – from deep, the free throw line, and inside the arc. Four different players provided offense down the stretch to close the gap. Radford's defense held Alabama to 10 points and the offense provided a much-needed boost of 18 points. The Highlanders went into the break only down one to the Crimson Tide.

Coming out of halftime, the Alabama lead increased by seven before Radford could break their stride with a split tripe to the charity stripe from Amele Ngwafang. Johnson capitalized on that momentum and banked in her next four baskets. Her jumper with 30 seconds remaining wrapped up the third quarter as the Crimson Tide led by 14 points.

Alabama had begun to pull away from Radford as the deficit increased to 20 points, Wilson's three and Rainford's layup brought the Highlander total to 48. Laney Corbin's free throw with 18 seconds to go, was the final basket of the game.

In the second half, Alabama posted a total of 54 points between the two quarters. The Highlanders were able to garner 21 points.
