SOFTBALL SPLITS ON DAY TWO OF FAIRFIELD INN & SUITES SEAHAWK SOFTBALL BASH

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Radford softball team split in the second day of competition in the Fairfield Inn & Suites Seahawk Softball Bash with a 16-3 win over Howard and a 4-3 loss to Rhode Island on Saturday.

GAME ONE vs. HOWARD
The Highlanders got things started with a six run inning in the second and ended the game with a six run inning in the seventh.

Hunter Mundy gave Radford a 2-0 lead when she gave the team its second home run of the season. Then a pair of singles put runners on second and first. Sofia Tapia and Sydney Fisher had a one-run single and a two-run single, respectively that gave the Highlanders a 5-0 edge.

Tapia later scored on a wild pitch that was Radford's sixth and final run of the inning. Radford was looking good with an 8-0 lead after four and a half, but back-to-back doubles from the Bison cut the lead to six, 8-2.

Maggie Rowe picked up her second hit of the game in the fifth inning with a two-run double. The Highlanders couldn't push across that coveted eighth run as she was stranded on second.

That changed in the top of the seventh inning when the Highlanders added six more runs on six hits.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Highlanders had 16 runs on 16 hits with four players earning multiple hit games. Fisher went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Radford had six extra-base hits with Rowe picking up a pair of doubles, along with Brooke Bond and Mundy with home runs.

GAME TWO vs. RHODE ISLAND
Ellie Rowe gave the Highlanders their first run as she plated Hannah Medlam in the second inning. Medlam reached with a one-out single to left field. Then Destiny Freeman got on base with a walk. Rowe stepped in a delivered the clutch hit.

Sienna Williams reached on a fielder's choice, but Freeman was out at third. Then a groundout to shortstop left a pair of runners on.

The game seemed to be in control until the fifth inning when the Seahawks scored three runs and took a 3-1 lead.

The Highlanders showed some resiliency in the top half of the sixth as Maggie Rowe singled to right field. She scored when Douglas drove her in with a double, and cut the deficit to one run. Medlam tied the game when she plated Douglas with a sacrifice fly.

Radford left the go-ahead run on second, which would become a big play.

In the bottom half of the inning, Erica Robles reached on a fielding error. Three pitches later Robles scored from second when Faith Musselwhite drove her in with a double to right field that gave the Rams a 4-3 lead.

The Highlanders recorded three outs in the next three at-bats, but the offense couldn't get anything going as the game ended five pitches later.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
For the first time this season no Highlanders had multi-hit games. Douglas, Medlam and Ellie Rowe all had one hit and one RBI. Douglas had the lone extra base hit, a double.
