HIGHLANDERS WINNING STREAK HITS DOUBLE FIGURES; WALKER ENJOYS CAREER NIGHT AGAINST WINTHROP

Rock Hill, SC - - -Senior forward Destinee Walker scored a career-high 26 points and moved into the Top 10 on Radford's all-time scoring list as the Highlanders handled the Winthrop Eagles, 79-57, Tuesday evening at the Winthrop Coliseum. The Highlanders improved to 18-6 (12-1 Big South Conference) while the hosts dropped to 10-15 (6-8 Big South).

Walker hit 9-of-18 field goal attempts, including a career-best 6-of-9 from behind the arc, and dished five assists to lead Radford to their 10th consecutive victory. Redshirt junior forward Sydney Nunley recorded her ninth double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds and freshman guard Makaila Wilson (11 points) was in double-digits for the second straight contest.

Radford was red-hot from behind the arc as they went a season-high 12-for-25 (48 percent) and finished 31-of-61 (50.8 percent) overall from the floor, their second straight contest shooting above 50 percent.
 
The Highlanders held the Eagles to 37.9 percent shooting as the hosts made just 25-of-66 field goal attempts, including 2-for-12 (16.7 percent) from deep.
 
Radford trailed 14-12 with 1:33 left in the opening quarter, however, the Highlanders outscored the Eagles by a 5-2 margin to take a 17-14 advantage at the end of the stanza. Walker drilled a trey with four seconds left off an assist by junior guard Khiana Johnson, who handed out a game-high six assists. 

Winthrop briefly re-captured the lead early in the second quarter after Destinee Jamison and Anika Riley hit back-to-back jumpers, but Walker splashed another triple to give the Highlanders the lead for good at 20-18 with 7:55 remaining in the quarter.  Redshirt junior forward Savannah Felgemacher and Nunley followed with consecutive jumpers and Wilson swished a 3-pointer to complete a 10-0 run that extended the lead to 27-18 at the 5:24 mark.
 
The hosts were within 34-20 after a free throw by Riley with 3:37 left, however, Felgemacher and Wilson stuck consecutive triples to make it 36-24 with 1:24 left before the break.  The Highlanders settled for a 38-27 advantage at halftime.

The Highlanders increased their lead to 48-33 midway through the third quarter after Johnson completed a conventional 3-point play. The lead grew to 17 after a left-corner jumper by freshman guard Bryonna McClean, who was set-up perfectly by her classmate Wilson.
 
The Eagles made a push as they closed to within 54-42 with 1:11 left in the third quarter but redshirt junior guard Jen Falconer (5 assists) converted a runner in the lane and classmate Lydia Rivers followed with a jumper to widen the lead to 58-42 heading into the final stanza.
 
Radford put the game out of reach as they opened the final quarter on a 11-3 burst to grab their largest lead at 69-45 with just 7:29 remaining. Wilson and Walker both hit long-distance bombs during the stretch.
 
A jumper by Jah'che Whitfield with 3:52 left cut the lead to 73-55 but that was as close as they would get.
 
The Highlanders will host Campbell on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
