RADFORD, Va. – Welcome to the Radford Roundup, where fans can find out all the information they need on upcoming Radford Athletics events taking place between Friday, February 22nd through Monday, Feb 25th.

BASEBALL

vs. Bucknell – Sat, February 23 @ 1:00 p.m.

Radford returns to action after dropping all three games at No. 11 East Carolina last weekend.
LF Spencer Horwitz (.500, HR, 2 RBI) and 2B David Bryant (.400, 2B, 2 runs scored) combined to go 8-for-18 in the series.
LHP Zack Ridgely (4.2 IP, 2 runs) and RHP Cole Dunn (5.0 IP, 1 run) turned in excellent outings on the mound.
The Bison were swept by No. 21 ranked N.C. State in a three-game series.
John Paul Bell drove in seven runs and went 4-for-13 in the series.
Dominic Toso went 4-for-11 with a double.

vs. Pittsburgh – Sat., February 23 @ 5:00 p.m.
Where: Spartanburg, S.C. (at USC Upstate - Cleveland S. Harley Baseball Park)
Records: Radford (0-3) | Pitt (1-4)

Pitt went 1-4 in the Diamond Sunshine State Classic last weekend. The Panthers defeated Villanova in the season-opener by a 7-2 count but fell to Iowa (10-1), Marshall (7-2) and Milwaukee (9-8).
Cole MacLaren went 5-for-12 with three doubles and drove in three runs in the event.
Dan Hammer allowed just two runs and fanned eight in 5.1 innings to get the win against Villanova. MacLaren drove in two runs as did Alex Amos.

at Wofford – Sun., February 24 @ 3 p.m.

Wofford went 2-1 in its season-opening series against Ohio.
Mike Brown went 5-for-9 to lead the Terrier offense while Lawson Hill drove in four runs and went 6-for-11.
Colin Davis drove in both runs in Wofford's 2-0 win against the Bobcats. Austin Higginbotham threw six scoreless innings and Anthony Garcia did not allow a run over the final three innings to earn the save.

MEN'S TENNIS

vs. Duquesne – Sat., February 23 @ 11 a.m.
Where: Blacksburg, Va. (Burrows-Burleson Indoor Tennis Center)
Records: Radford (4-1) | Duquesne (4-3)

Due to expected inclement weather conditions, the match was moved indoors and to Blacksburg.
Duquesne will play Virginia Tech the day before they play Radford, for back-to-back matches in the Burrows-Burleson Indoor Tennis Center.
The Highlanders are currently on a three-game winning streak with a conference win at Hampton already secured.
Alexandros Caldwell and Michiel Meekers improved their doubles record to 4-1 after a win against Hampton their last time out. The duo recorded a decisive 7-6 victory that gave Radford the doubles point.
Matko Varga and Meekers are both still unbeaten in singles play, pushing their records to 5-0 each with wins over Hampton.

SOFTBALL

vs. UMass Lowell / Iowa State – Fri., February 22 @ 2:30 / 4:45 p.m.

Radford carries a 4-1 record into the Holy City Showdown in Charleston, S.C., hosted by College of Charleston.
The Highlanders defeated Howard and Rhode Island twice and UNCW once at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Seahawk Softball Bash. The Highlanders outscored those three teams by a 46-14 margin.
Sydney Fisher and Hannah Medlam tore it up offensively last weekend. The duo combined for 18 hits, a double, two triples and 10 RBIs.
Maggie Rowe tallied four doubles and four RBIs on opening weekend. She enters with a .353 batting average.
Fisher and Brooke Bond brought in a pair of Big South's weekly awards. Fisher was named Big South Player of the Week and Bond was named Big South Freshman of the Week.
UMass Lowell has started the year 2-3, splitting with Jacksonville and Providence and losing to Georgia Tech in eight innings.
Courtney Cashman leads the River Hawks with a .667 average with eight hits, five doubles and a home run. She also has three RBIs and a 1.333 slugging percentage.
Iowa State enters with a 3-5 record with two of the five losses coming to No. 1 Florida State. The Cyclones have won two of their last three games.
ISU only has one player with above a .300 average in Hannah Carter, but she only has six at-bats.

vs. Dartmouth / Appalachian State – Sat., February 23 @ 11 a.m. / 1:15 p.m.

Records: Dartmouth (0-0) | Appalachian State (3-3)

Dartmouth has yet to play a game in 2019 and will open its season at the Holy City Showdown with Appalachian State on Friday before taking on Charleston Southern.
The Big Green posted a 22-18 overall record and went 16-5 in Ivy League play last year.
Junior Micah Schroder returns as the leading offensive weapon after hitting .367 with 44 hits and 13 doubles – all team highs.
Appalachian State comes in with a 3-3 record that includes wins over Longwood and North Carolina A&T (twice).
The Mountaineers have four players with a .300 batting average or better.
Allison Durrence has a team-best four home runs with 11 RBIs through the first six games.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

at Hampton – Sat., February 23 @ 6 p.m.
Where: Norfolk, Va. (Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center)
Records: Radford (3-3, 1-0 Big South) | Hampton (0-3, 0-1 Big South)

The Highlanders are looking to start off 2-0 in Big South play for the first time since 2012 following a 4-3 win over UNC Asheville last week.
The team went 4-2 in singles play against UNC Asheville, with Malin Falk breezing through her competitor (6-2, 6-1) and Katey Fruehauf winning an intense three-set match (7-5, 6-7, 6-0).
The Highlanders and Pirates matched up in the regular season finale last season, with Radford getting the 7-0 sweep.

LACROSSE

at George Washington – Sun., February 24 @ 2 p.m.

The Highlanders are 1-0 for the second consecutive season after topping Saint Francis (Pa.), 18-13, in the season opener. It was the ninth time in program history Radford has scored 18 or more goals in a single game.
Adrian Rius scored a team-high five goals while Callie Bonnel, Lindsey Carroll and Juliette Ruland all contributed three goals in a balanced offensive attack.
Defender Katie Bendrick was named Big South Freshman of the Week after a stellar collegiate debut on Saturday, collecting six ground balls, six draw control wins and two caused turnovers.
George Washington leads the all-time series with Radford, 1-0, after a 13-7 decision at Cupp Stadium went the Colonials' way on March 20, 2018.
The Colonials were picked to finish 7th out of 10 teams in the 2019 Atlantic 10 preseason poll and have started the season 0-1 with a 14-12 loss to Longwood.

WOMEN'S GOLF

Radford opens up the spring season after an excellent fall campaign. Newcomer Beatriz Mosquera Quintas placed eighth to open the fall season at the William & Mary Invitational. In her first career event, she carded a 72 on the first day and finished up with a 71 on the final day.
Mosquera Quintas was named the Big South Freshman of the Week after finishing inside the top five at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate. Her seven-over par was tied for third out of 68 golfers and her three-under in the second round was tied for the best individual round score of any Radford player since the 2007-2008 season.
Another newcomer, Natalie Welsh, carded a seven-over on the final day of play and finished the tournament in 30th place.

MEN'S GOLF

at Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate – Mon.-Tue. Feb. 25-26

Radford opens up the spring season after a promising fall campaign. Radford finished in a fourth-place tie at the Elon Phoenix Invitational. Peter Gasperini fired a 68 over the final 18 holes to finish 19th out of 92 entries. Parker See was just a stroke behind Gasperini and tied for 21^st.
The Highlanders were fifth at the East Bay Deli Classic at Kiawah Island, defeating six other Big South opponents. Peter Gasperini finished 11th out of 117 competitors and led the entire field by carding a -9 on all par five holes. He also tied for the lead with three eagles. Ben Ramsey finished tied for 23rd and Parker See tied for 35th.
