RADFORD, Va. – Katey Fruehauf gave the Radford women's tennis team its clinching fourth point after defeating Chante Malo (6-3, 6-2) in the 5-2 win over West Virginia State on Monday afternoon at the Radford Tennis Complex.
The Highlanders began the day winning the doubles point as Fruehauf and Malin Falk took it to their opponent with a 6-1 victory. Drousile Dzeubou and Tyler Blalock had fits with Laura Isbey and Kiersten Hensley in their doubles competition, but eventually won 6-4 to give Radford an early 1-0 lead.
Anastasia Belyaeva dominated Hensley on court 1 with a pair of 6-1 victories. Falk did the exact same to her opponent on court 3. The pair of wins gave Radford a 3-0 lead and only needed on point to clinch the match.
Fruehauf was the next Highlander that won her match and gave Radford a 2-0 record along with West Virginia State its first loss. Dzeubou was the next Highlander to finish defeating Isbey, 7-5 and 6-2, on court 2.
Radford had a 5-0 lead and was looking for the sweep, but Blalock and Jeanine Acierto dropped heart-breaking matches. Blalock lost her first set 6-4 and was down 5-2 in the second, but battled back to force a tiebreaker. McKnight won the tiebreaker and gave the Yellow Jackets their first point.
