Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

RADFORD NEARLY COMPLETES EPIC COMEBACK AGAINST LA SALLE

RADFORD, Va. – Outscoring the Explorers, 8-4, in the second half, the Radford women's lacrosse team nearly completed an epic comeback against La Salle but simply ran out of time and lost, 17-15, at Cupp Stadium on Tuesday.

Despite trailing 13-7 at halftime, the Highlanders kept their heads high and maintained confidence that they could win. They parlayed that confidence into an excellent second half performance to surge all the way back to within one at 16-15 with 4:25 left.

Radford scored the first four goals of the second half, La Salle fired back with three straight goals of their own, and then the Highlanders put together four consecutive goals again. La Salle would get the final tally of the game though, scoring with 3:42 left on the clock to go up 17-15.

The Highlanders had a chance to pull within one again at 2:05, but their shot was saved and from that point on the Explorers managed to keep possession until the clock hit zero. Radford moves to 1-4 on the year while La Salle improves to 2-5.

Senior attacker Adrian Rius led the way on offense with four goals on six shots, a season-high 10 draw control wins, two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Sophomore attacker Jennifer Shield came alive for her best game of the year with three goals and two assists while senior midfielder Emma Rogers matched her with three goals and two assists of her own.

Senior midfielder Juliette Ruland gave Radford a spark on both ends of the field, scoring a pair of goals plus adding an assist all while leading the team with five ground ball pickups and two caused turnovers.

Junior goalkeeper Maddie Mashewske came off the bench to make seven saves with a .412 save percentage across 38 minutes played.

STAT OF THE GAME
Radford earned a 20-14 advantage in draw control wins and a 13-5 advantage in caused turnovers. The Highlanders outshot the Explorers 30-28, but Molly Loughlin came up with nine big saves.
