ERRORS GET THE BEST OF RADFORD IN 8-4 LOSS TO ELON

ELON, N.C. – The Radford softball team committed five errors, which proved to be costly in the 8-4 loss to Elon on Wednesday night at Hunt Softball Park in Elon, N.C.

The Highlanders struck first in the first inning as Destiny Freeman drove in a pair of runs with a single to right center field. Sydney Fisher and Hannah Medlam, who reached on a single and walk, were the two runs that scored.

The Phoenix answered with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning. Elon increased its 3-2 lead to 5-2 when Keagan Goldwait hit an RBI single and later scored on a throwing error – the second of the game.

Radford had a good opportunity with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth inning but a fly out to left field ended the threat. It was the fifth, sixth and seventh runners the Highlanders left on base.

A couple of unearned runs scored in the fourth inning, which made it a 7-2 game in Elon's favor. After a pitching change for Radford, the Phoenix catcher Callie Horn gave them an 8-2 lead with a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Sarah Smith came in for Radford and got the final out of the fifth stranding a trio of base runners. Smith held the Phoenix scoreless for the final 1.1 innings and only allowed one hit.

Freeman came through in the clutch once again with her career-high fourth RBI of the night in the top of the seventh. She drove in two more runs with a bases loaded single and one out that cut the lead in half, 8-4.

Ellie Rowe drew a walk and loaded the bases with two outs left to play. Calle Morgan hit a ball right back up the middle, but the Phoenix pitcher stabbed the ball and threw it home for the force out.

An infield pop up ended the game with the bases loaded, including Radford's 12th stranded base runner.

STAT OF THE NIGHT
Despite Freeman's career-high four RBIs, the Highlanders left 12 base runners aboard and at least one in every inning.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Freeman was one of three Highlanders with a pair of hits. She along with Fisher and Douglas had multi-hit games. Douglas had the only extra-base hit for the Highlanders – a double. The top four hitters in the lineup scored each of the runs for Radford.
