RADFORD SHAKES OFF RUST ON FIRST DAY OF 49ER CLASSIC

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After a month-long hiatus, the Radford track & field team got back into action at the 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center on Friday.

Sophomore Chancey Gunnell got the day – and the 2019 outdoor season – started on the right foot with a personal record in the 100-meter dash. The North Carolina native won her section and placed 29th out of 71 runners overall.

Freshman distance runner Kayland Bond kept that momentum going with a time of 4:55.03 in the 1,500 meters to place 37th out of a huge 114-competitor field.

While it wasn't quite a PR just yet, junior Kierra Henderson posted a very strong distance of 5.19 meters (17'0.5") in the long jump to begin her season. The mark earned a 15th place finish out of 45.
