DAVIS, Calif. – A season-high five goals from junior attacker Lindsey Carroll weren't enough to overcome an early deficit in an 18-13 loss to UC Davis at Aggie Stadium on Saturday.
The Warren, N.J. native led the attack with one goal in the first half and four in the second half including three in a row between 23:50 and 14:28 on the clock. The Highlanders also got three goals each from senior midfielders Callie Bonnel and Juliette Ruland.
UC Davis notched the first two goals of the game to go ahead early and the responded to a Radford goal with a 4-0 run to increase its lead to 6-1 with 14:20 left in the first period. The Aggie led, 9-4, heading into halftime but the Highlanders have proved they can battle back when they keep things relatively close.
Three straight goals to open the second half for the Aggies made things difficult and the home team's lead reached nine on two separate occasions. Radford refused to go away and went on a 4-0 run to pull within five once again before the game came to an end.
Junior Maddie Mashewske played all 60 minutes in goal and made nine saves en route to a .333 save percentage. Bonnel and freshman defender Katie Bendrick tied for the team lead with four draw controls each while junior defender Megan Hawken picked up a team-high four ground balls.
