SPRINTERS SHOW WELL ON FIRST DAY OF WINTHROP/ADIDAS INVITATIONAL

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Several personal records and clinched finals appearances made for a successful first day of the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational on Saturday.

Junior Kierra Henderson got the day started on the right foot, posting a season best of 5.26 meters (17'3.25") in the long jump. She placed advanced to the finals and ultimately placed ninth out of 50 competitors.

Several Highlanders ran great races in the 100-meter dash, led by junior La'Tisha Chambers who took 10^th place out of 75 runners with a time of 12.17 seconds. Freshman Denisha Hoosier made a statement with a PR of 12.29 seconds to finish 17^th and Henderson gave the team a third top-25 finisher.

Chambers earned a spot in the 200-meter dash finals as well, placing fifth out of 98 in the prelims with a time of 25.19 seconds.

Sophomores Ryan Paine and Chancey Gunnell put on a show in the 400 meters to close out the track events. Paine crossed the finish line in 58.72 seconds to record a new PR while Gunnell did it in 57.36 seconds to claim a spot in tomorrow's finals.

Finally, in the hammer throw, freshman Mary Brown showed off her strength with a personal record toss of 41.20 meters (135'2").

UP NEXT
Radford heads back to the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center on Saturday for the second day of the 2019 Winthrop/Adidas Invitational. Events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
