RADFORD, Va. – Welcome to the Radford Roundup, where fans can find out all the information they need on upcoming Radford Athletics events taking place between Friday, March 29th through Monday, April 1st.

 
 BASEBALL
 

at Winthrop - Fri., March 29 at 6 p.m. | Sat., March 30 at 2 p.m. | Sun., March 31 at 1 p.m.

  • Radford will return home for a big 3-game series against Big South leader Winthrop this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • The Highlanders won their fifth straight contest on Tuesday evening as they blanked Appalachian State, 5-0.
  • Catcher Will Harless and second baseman David Bryant both drove in a pair of runs. 
  • Starter Hunter Williams failed to allow a run and scattered three hits in 3.2 innings of work.  Relievers Cody Boone (1.1 inning), Austin Gerber (3.0 inning) and Cameron Fritz (1.0 inning) all were effective out of the bullpen.
  • Harless went 2-for-3 with a walk and right fielder Andrew Szamski went 2-for-4. Third baseman Matt Roth was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a pair of walks. 
  • Szamski is hitting .385 (10-for-26) against left-handers and .429 (18-for-42) with runners on base. He also leads the team with 7 two-out RBI's
  • Roth is 8-for-21 (.381) with runners in scoring position.
  • Right-handed batters are hitting just .188 (6-for-32) against reliever Austin Gerber.
  • DH J.D. Mundy has a team-high 9 RBI with a runner on third and less than two outs.  He has a .818 percentage (9-for-11) in those situations.
  • Winthrop had won eight straight until falling at home against Furman on Tuesday.
  • Brandon Fite is hitting .392 to lead the squad and Hunter Lipscomb is batting .329 with a team-high 24 RBI.
  • Matthew Mulkey is hitting .289 with four homers and 21 RBI.
  • Nate Pawelczyk is 5-1 with a 1.15 ERA in six starts. The RHP has allowed just 28 hits while fanning 41 over 39 innings of work.
  • Zach Peek is 3-1 with a 3.93 ERA in six starts and has fanned 41 over 34.1 innings.
 
 TRACK & FIELD
 

at Raleigh Relays - Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30

  • Known widely as one of the biggest meets held on the East Coast, Radford is set to compete in the Adidas Raleigh Relays for the second consecutive season.
  • Last season, Kierra Henderson, Amelia Reynolds, Alexis Stafford and La'Tisha Chambers broke the 4x100-meter relay school record with a time of 46.93 seconds.
  • Fellow Big South teams such as Campbell and High Point are expected to run in the Raleigh Relays as well.
  • The Highlanders will look to build off the momentum they created with several all-time top-10 times and personal records at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational last weekend.
 
 MEN'S TENNIS
 

vs. Gardner-Webb - Friday, March 29 at 3 p.m.

  • A hot team has two matches at the Radford Tennis Complex this weekend. The Highlanders are fresh off a pair of wins over Davidson and Winthrop, both 4-3.
  • Matko Varga, Michiel Meekers, and Alexandros Caldwell have combined for 35 singles wins as Meekers leads the way with 13.
  • Gardner-Webb enters with a 7-5 record, but all seven wins have come in a row. They are 2-0 in the Big South with wins over Campbell and Presbyterian.
  • Millen Hurrion and Maximillian Scholl have 21 wins for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
vs. USC Upstate - Sunday, March 31 at Noon

  • It's been a tough transition for USC Upstate, who only has one win this season and it came from Belmont Abbey.
  • The win over Belmont Abbey was the first win of the season, since then the Spartans have lost 12 straight.
  • Ankush Arora and Fernando Bernardes each have five wins, which leads the team.
 
 LACROSSE
 

vs. Gardner-Webb - Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m.

  • Radford gets a clean slate with the start of Big South play on Saturday.
  • The Highlanders are fifth in the nation in ground balls per game (23.75) and seventh in the nation in caused turnovers per game (12.00)
  • Senior attacker Adrian Rius is 22nd in the country with a free position percentage of .625
  • Gardner-Webb was picked to finish sixth out of seven teams in the conference preseason poll, but currently sit in second place at 5-5 overall.
  • In the Big South, the Runnin' Bulldogs rank second in goals per game (12.4), assists per game (5.5) and ground balls per game (22.4) while leading the league in draw controls per game (14.5).
  • Senior attacker Abby Hanscom ranks 11th in the nation with a .614 shot percentage.
  • Freshman attacker Jada Preston ranks 24th in the nation with 1.90 assists per game.

 SOFTBALL

  • Radford split with the two ACC foes they faced earlier in the week.
  • The Highlanders beat Virginia, 6-4, on Tuesday night and fell to No. 19 Virginia Tech, 8-0 in five innings.
  • Radford tied a season-high with three home runs and was highlighted by Destiny Freeman's 2-for-2 performance including a three-run home run and a double.
  • Hannah Medlam went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles against the Hokies.
  • Sydney Fisher is batting .400 with 44 hits on the season – both second best in the Big South.
  • She is one hit away from being tied at the top of the Big South with Presbyterian's Ansley Wilbanks, who has 45.
  • Wilbanks and the Blue Hose enter this weekend with a 10-25-2 record and an 0-8 Big South record.
  • Wilbanks leads the team with a .375 batting average and 18 RBIs.
  • Alyssa Batastini has gotten the bulk of the time in the circle with 127.1 innings pitched. She has a 6-17 record with 45 strikeouts.

 WOMEN'S TENNIS
 

at Campbell - Saturday, March 30 at 2 p.m.

  • Radford has dropped its last two matches both to conference opponents in Presbyterian and Charleston Southern.  
  • The Highlanders are led by Drousile Dzeubou, who has 10 wins. Anastasia Belyaeva and Malin Falk are not far behind with nine wins.
  • Campbell is 10-9 overall with a pair of recent wins over Longwood and UNC Asheville.
  • Lou Regen has a team-high 10 wins with Lea Cutura one behind her with nine wins.
