RADFORD DEFEATS GARDNER-WEBB FOR THIRD STRAIGHT VICTORY

RADFORD, Va. – Gardner-Webb entered Friday's match with an undefeated Big South record and left it with its first loss as the Radford men's tennis team defeated the Runnin' Bulldogs, 5-2, en route to its third straight victory.

The high-energy match began with Radford claiming the doubles point thanks to a 6-4 victory on court 2. Matko Varga and Andres Silva won the first doubles match 6-4, but the No. 74 ranked doubles team in Maximiian Scholl and Millen Hurrion picked up a 6-3 victory on court 1. Moments later Alexandros Caldwell and Michiel Meekers clinched the doubles point.

The Runnin' Bulldogs tied it at one when Scholl defeated Sirous, 6-3 and 6-2. Silva gave Radford the lead back when he took court 6, 6-0 and 6-2. The final four singles matches were neck and neck.

Varga was the third singles match to complete as he picked up a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Joahn Fors on court 5. Not long after the conclusion on court 5, Caldwell clinched it for the Highlanders with a 6-4 set two win on court 3.

Meekers extended the Radford lead to 5-1 with his team-leading 14^th victory of the season. Radford was looking for its sixth point but had to go through tough competition in Hurrion – the No. 107 ranked player in the country.

Magalhaes was playing well on court 2 against Hurrion. He won the first set, 6-4 but fell in the second by the same score. Hurrion won the third set tiebreaker, 10-4, and kept Radford from its sixth point.

Nonetheless, Radford picked up its 13^th win of the season and improved to 4-1 in conference play, while the Runnin' Bulldogs fell to 7-6, 2-1 in the conference.

The Highlanders will stay in the NRV and welcome Big South newcomer USC Upstate to town at 1 p.m., on Sunday.
