RADFORD, Va. – Welcome to the Radford Roundup, where fans can find out all the information they need on upcoming Radford Athletics events taking place between Tuesday, April 2nd and Thursday, April 4th.

 
 MEN'S TENNIS
 

at James Madison - Tuesday, April 2nd at 2 p.m.
Where: Harrisonburg, Va. (East Campus Tennis Courts)
Records: Radford (13-3, 4-1 Big South) | James Madison (13-7, 2-2 CAA)

  • The Highlanders look to improve their three-game winning streak as they travel to Harrisonburg, Va., for a match with James Madison.
  • Michiel Meekers, Matko Varga and Alexandros Caldwell continue to play well. They have a combined 38-9 singles record.
  • Meekers leads the way with 14 wins, while Caldwell and Varga have 12 wins each.
  • James Madison enters with a 13-7 record and picked up notable wins over Longwood, College of Charleston and Georgetown.
  • The Dukes are coming off a 5-2 loss to UNCW on Sunday.
vs. USC Upstate - Wednesday, April 3rd at 3 p.m.
Where: Radford, Va. (Radford Tennis Complex)
Records: Radford (13-3, 4-1 Big South) | USC Upstate (1-12, 0-4 Big South)
  • Radford will have a quick turnaround with USC Upstate on Wednesday. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday, but cold conditions forced it to be rescheduled.
  • It's been a tough transition for USC Upstate, who only has one win this season and it came from Belmont Abbey.
  • The win over Belmont Abbey was the first win of the season, since then the Spartans have lost 12 straight.
  • Ankush Arora and Fernando Bernardes each have five wins, which leads the team.

 
 BASEBALL
 

at ETSU - Tuesday, April 2nd at 6 p.m.
Where: Johnson City, Tenn. (Thomas Stadium)

  • Radford will be seeking their ninth straight victory when they travel to East Tennessee State on Tuesday evening. Radford has won eight straight games for the first time since they won 15 in a row in 2015.
  • The Highlanders, who are above .500 for the first time this season, outscored Winthrop by a 38-18 margin in their three-game sweep over the weekend.
  • The Highlanders scored a season-high 20 runs on Saturday and also had a season-best 21 hits. The Highlanders also produced a 2019 Big South single-game high 40 total bases in the contest.
  • Radford leads the Big South Conference in batting average, hits, home runs, runs batted in, walks drawn and total bases. The Highlanders have 41 homers this season, ranking fifth in the nation.
  • RF Andrew Szamski is hitting .425 with 3 homers and 18 RBI in nine conference games…He is batting .481 (13-for-27) overall with runners in scoring position this season and has a team-high 11 two-out RBI.
  • Szamski earned his second Big South Player of the Week accolade on Monday after he enjoyed a .705/.684/1.235 slash line with two homers, three doubles and 12 RBI last week.
  • David Bryant earned his second Freshman of the Week award after the second baseman hit .462 (6-for-13) along with six RBI. He also added a pair of stolen bases and racked up 15 assists.
  • Center fielder Kyle Butler leads the squad with a .429 average in Big South play.
  • LHP Zack Ridgely has had three no-decisions against conference foes but owns a terrific 2.84 ERA and has allowed just 11 hits in 19 innings of work.
  • Reliever Cameron Fritz is 3-0 with a 2.16 ERA in Big South contests.
  • ETSU, who had won seven straight before a loss on Sunday against Georgetown, is 18-2 at home this season. The Bucs are hitting .280 and have limited opponents to a .243 average.
  • Cullen Smith is batting a team-high .360 and is tied for the team-lead with five homers.
  • Cade Gilbert is batting .308 and is tied for the team-lead with 23 RBI.

 
 WOMEN'S TENNIS
 

vs. USC Upstate - Wednesday, April 3rd at 2 p.m.
Where: Radford, Va. (Radford Tennis Courts)
Records: Radford (8-8, 3-4 Big South) | USC Upstate (1-14, 0-4 Big South)
  • Radford has dropped its last three matches and are now .500 with an 8-8 record.
  • The Highlanders have a 3-4 Big South mark with two conference matches left to play.
  • Drousile Dzeubou picked up her 11th win of the season against Campbell. It was her 10th win as the No. 2 player in the lineup.
  • USC Upstate enters with a 1-14 record and an 0-4 conference record. Their one win came against Belmont Abbey on Feb. 2nd.

 LACROSSE
 

at Presbyterian - Wednesday, April 3rd at 3 p.m.

  • Radford has started conference play off with a win for the first time in program history and has a great chance to improve to 2-0.
  • The Highlanders were led by Lindsey Carroll and Emma Rogers who scored four goals apiece against the Runnin' Bulldogs.
  • Rogers added another milestone to the list, surpassing 100 ground balls in her career.
  • Katie Bendrick (6 GB, 6 DC, 3 CT) and Maddie Mashewske (10 saves) were excellent on the defensive side of the ball in that game as well.
  • Presbyterian is in its first season under head coach Jenna Handshoe and was picked to finish seventh out of seven teams in the Big South Preseason Poll.
  • The Blue Hose rank last in the Big South for goals, assists, ground balls, points, draw controls, shots, caused turnovers and goals against average. They do, however, rank first in the conference in shot percentage at .484.
  • Sophomore midfielder Sarah Marshall leads the team with 20 goals and seven assists for 27 points.
  • Senior midfielder Natalie Barnett is the only other player on the team with double-digit goals at 14.

 
 SOFTBALL
 

vs. ETSU - Wednesday, April 3rd at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. (DH)

  • Radford got back to its winning ways and are riding a hot streak with a 4-1 record last week. The Highlanders have won seven of their last nine games.
  • Last week, Radford picked up a win over Virginia and swept Presbyterian in a three-game set. The team batted .293 with 34 hits – six doubles and seven home runs – and 24 runs scored.
  • The pitching has been great for the Highlanders as Kayla Huffman and Jessie Marvin combined for 18 strikeouts and only 14 runs allowed in 27.2 innings pitched.
  • The pitching staff has worked its way to the second-best ERA in the conference (3.32) and has the lowest walks per seven innings in the league (1.91).
  • Offensively, Sydney Fisher is batting .407 with 48 hits. Both second best in the Big South.
  • Destiny Freeman leads the team with seven home runs and ranks fourth in the conference. Hunter Mundy's six home runs are tied for fifth best.
  • It's been an up and down year for ETSU. They started the year 8-2-2 but have since then fallen to 16-12-2. However, the Buccaneers have won three of their last four games with a sweep over Western Carolina.
  • ETSU ranks third in the SoCon in batting average (.284) and ERA (4.17) but ranks first in fielding percentage (.968) and has made a conference-low 26 errors.
  • Nikki Grupp leads the team with a .358 batting average and 34 hits with a conference-leading 33 RBIs. Most of her offensive production has come from her eight home runs.
