Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

RADFORD BESTED BY NO. 25 HIGH POINT

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's lacrosse team battled with everything it had, but took a tough 21-4 loss to No. 25 High Point at Cupp Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The game started off well enough as the Highlanders answered the Panthers' opening goal with one of their own at 27:47 thanks to senior midfielder Emma Rogers. Then when HPU scored again three minutes later, sophomore attacker Jennifer Shield took advantage of a fortuitous bounce to even the game at 2-2 with 22:10 left in the first half.

High Point took over from there though, going on a 7-0 run before junior attacker Lindsey Carroll finally halted the streak at the 6:45 mark. The Panthers then scored four more goals to take a 13-3 lead into halftime.

With the running clock rule in effect, nothing quite went Radford's way in the second half and the visitors managed to score the first eight goals of the period. With less than a minute left to play, Rogers added her second goal of the day to bring the game to its final tally of 21-4.

Radford drops to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in Big South play while the nationally-ranked Panthers improve to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in the conference.

Junior goalie Maddie Mashewske did her best to keep the Highlanders in the game, making seven saves between the pipes. Freshman defender Katie Bendrick and senior midfielder Callie Bonnel recorded seven and six draw controls respectively to lead all players while senior defender Avery Reding contributed four ground balls and three caused turnovers in her return from injury.

STAT OF THE GAME
Thanks in large part to the efforts of Bendrick and Bonnel, the Highlanders earned a 14-to-12 advantage in draw control wins on the day.
