EMMA ROGERS NAMED BIG SOUTH OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK


 
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Thanks to her tremendous performance in the Radford women's lacrosse team's victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday, senior midfielder Emma Rogers has been named Big South Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Rogers paced the Highlanders with four goals and two assists while putting all six of her shot attempts on goal. She became the hero of the game by tying things at 15 with 2:14 left to play before scoring the game-winner at the 1:26 mark. It wasn't just her offense that shined though; the senior captain added four ground balls and a caused turnover as well.
 
"I am incredibly proud of Emma for being named the Big South Offensive Player of the week after helping our team go 1-0 in conference play," said head coach Haley Hardy. "Emma is not only an elite player, but one of the greatest leaders I've ever coached. When her team needed her, Emma stepped up and got the job done. As a coach, I trust Emma and know that she wants to help the team in those big moments."
 
The Reston, Va. becomes the first player in program history to earn the distinction, adding to a long list of milestones for both herself and the team. Her last weekly award came on Feb. 23, 2016 when she was named Big South Freshman of the Week. It's the second time this season that Radford has received a weekly award. Defender Katie Bendrick was named Freshman of the Week back on Feb. 19.
 
Rogers now has 19 goals and 11 assists for 30 points on the year, ranking in the top-10 in the Big South for all three categories. She has surpassed 100 career goals, 100 career ground balls and 150 career points with the bulk of conference play still to come.
 
The Highlanders return to the field on Wednesday, April 3 when they go head-to-head with Big South-foe Presbyterian. The game is slated for a 3 p.m. start at Old Bailey Stadium in Clinton, S.C.
