HIGHLANDERS PLATE 24 ON SENIOR DAY SATURDAY, SWEEP HAMPTON

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford softball seniors went out with a bang in their final conference home game as the team plated 24 runs in a 24-0 win over Hampton, completing the series sweep on Saturday.

The 24 runs scored tied a program record, which was set in 2002 against North Carolina A&T in a 24-1 victory. The 24-run difference was the largest winning margin in program history. Two of the seniors, Hannah Medlam and Maggie Rowe helped out in a major way driving in six of the runs on six hits and scoring four runs. Kayla Huffman also added a hit and an RBI – the first of her career. She also added her first shutout of the season to the list of accomplishments on Senior Day.

The game began with Huffman pitching a scoreless inning. Then the hits started coming for Radford. Sydney Fisher singled through the right side for the first of Radford's 22 hits. After she stole second, Medlam drove in her with a single to center field. A couple of batters later Medlam scored thanks to fellow senior Maggie Rowe. Hunter Mundy plated the final run of the first, which gave Radford a 4-0 lead.

Mundy went a career-high 4-for-4 with five RBIs. She scored twice and added a home run to her impressive day. Freshman Lindsay Hunter also had an impressive day at the dish going 2-for-3 with two runs scored a couple of RBIs. Her day was highlighted by a bases clearing double in the second inning, which gave Radford a 9-0 lead.

Huffman was cruising in the circle and was called on to step in the batter's box in the third inning. She delivered an RBI single and the Highlanders scored seven runs on eight hits and extended their lead to 17-0 through three.

Radford had 12 at-bats with nine different batters in the fourth inning and scored seven more runs – just for good measure. The seven runs made it 24-0 and Huffman allowed one hit in the fifth but bounced back to sit down the final three batters to complete the shutout.

Medlam went 3-for-5 with a career-high four runs scored and three RBIs, while M. Rowe went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored in their final weekend game at Radford Softball Stadium. Huffman only allowed three hits and punched out five on 76 pitches through five innings of work.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The 24 runs and 22 hits were a season-high for Radford and the 24 runs match the most in program history. Talia Douglas scored four runs, along with Hannah Medlam – both career-highs. Hunter picked up her first multi-hit game and her three RBIs set a career-high. The Highlanders drew seven walks and only struck out twice. Fisher jumped into the single-season top 10 with her 67th hit of the season. She currently sits in seventh place at Radford.
