MILLER TAKES DOWN 100-METER HURDLES SCHOOL RECORD AT DUKE INVITATIONAL

RADFORD, Va. – It was a great day for the Radford track & field team, who competed split squad at both the Duke Invitational and the JMU Invitational on Saturday.

Inclement weather pushed all of Friday's Duke Invitational events over to Saturday, but that couldn't stop freshman Emilie Miller! The freshman from Fishersville, Va. broke Latisa Bailey's 2001 mark in the 100-meter hurdles with a lifetime PR time of 13.94 seconds. The time also qualifies her for the U20 USA Championships in June.

Fellow freshman Kayland Bond was the first Highlander to make an impact on the day, running a huge PR of 11:13.04 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The time is the second-fastest in program history behind only Brittany Christian who ran a 11:03.33 on April 15, 2010.

Later in the day, La'Tisha Chambers ran a 24.24 in the 200-meter dash to finish third overall. It was the fifth-fastest time in program history and she now owns the #2 (24.02 seconds), #3 (24.16 seconds) and #5 times in the event for Radford.

After leading off the 4x100-meter relay team that ran its second-fastest race of the season and placed fifth, Kierra Henderson earned a personal record in the 400 meters.

Karah Foster, Ryan Paine, Emilie Miller and Chancey Gunnell finished off the day by crossing the finish line of the 4x400-meter relay in 3:52.92, the Highlanders' fastest time this season and the sixth-fastest time in school history.

Farther north at JMU, Mary Brown and Madison Graham both posted personal records in the hammer throw. Brown placed second overall thanks to a throw of 43.97 meters (144'3") and Graham finished in third with a throw of 40.12 meters (131'7").
