SILVA EARNS BIG SOUTH FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For his strong efforts in a pair of matches last week, Andres Silva has been named Big South Freshman of the Week the conference announced on Wednesday.

"Andres followed up a big singles win over Davidson with two quality wins over Winthrop and Gardner Webb," head coach Rob Bareford said. "He is such a hard worker so it's nice to see him rewarded for his efforts."

Silva has picked up his game as of late and has been a real contributor for Radford. He went 2-0 at No. 6 singles and 1-1 at No. 3 doubles in the wins over Winthrop and Gardner-Webb.

The Valencia, Venezuela native defeated Lluis Miralles from Winthrop, 6-3 and 6-4, and beat Sebastian Harris, 6-0 and 6-2, from Gardner-Webb in singles matches. He has how won three singles matches in a row and has improved his singles record to 7-2.

Silva becomes the first freshman to earn the weekly honor since Michiel Meekers did it in 2015.
