Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

RULAND SCORES A CAREER HIGH SIX GOALS AT LONGWOOD

FARMVILLE, Va. – Senior midfielder Juliette Ruland scored a career-high six goals, but it wasn't quite enough as the Radford women's lacrosse team fell by a single goal in a 16-15 loss to Longwood at Jackson Stadium on Saturday.

Ruland was the first Highlander (3-8, 2-1 Big South) to score in the game, answering the Lancers' game-opening goal at the 26:21 mark. From there the first half was all about runs as a 2-0 Radford run led to a 3-0 Longwood run and a 4-0 run by the Highlanders was erased by a 5-0 Lancer onslaught.

After Longwood (4-8, 1-1 Big South) netted the first two goals of the second half, Ruland took over and scored three of the net four points in the contest. A shot from senior midfielder Emma Rogers tied the game at 14-all with 6:42 to go, but the home team found a way to get on the board twice in a row. The Highlanders managed to get one back, but an attempt at a game-tying goal with 10 seconds left rang off the post and time ran out.

Junior attacker Lindsey Carroll earned her sixth hat trick of the season with three goals on the day while Rogers (2 goals, 2 assists) and senior midfielder Callie Bonnel (2 goals) each made big contributions on offense. Senior attacker Adrian Rius and sophomore attacker Jennifer Shield scored the team's other two goals.

Bonnel led the squad with five draw control wins while Rogers picked up a team-high four ground balls and freshman defender Katie Bendrick led the way on defense with three caused turnovers.

Longwood's junior attacker Kaitlin Luccarelli was tough to stop, scoring seven goals and adding an assist on 10 shots. Redshirt freshman attacker Taylor Blenckstone was credited with five assists.

STAT OF THE GAME
Overall, Radford and Longwood proved to be extremely evenly matched. The Highlanders earned a 31-30 advantage in shots taken, but the two sides tied in shots on goal (23) and saves (7). Other stats that finished closely included ground balls (21-18, Radford) and caused turnovers (10-8, Longwood).
