RADFORD FALLS TO CAMPBELL IN SERIES OPENER

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Radford softball team fell to Campbell, 3-2, in an eight-inning contest on Friday evening at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium in Buies Creek, N.C.

Radford was down 2-1 when Maggie Rowe stepped into the batter's box in the sixth inning with two outs. She blasted the third pitch she saw over the fence in left field. The fifth-year senior tied the game at two with her fourth round-tripper of the season.

Unfortunately, the lead didn't last much longer as Kayla Frendendall, the Campbell first baseman, hit a leadoff home run in the eighth inning and gave the Fighting Camels a 3-2 walk-off victory.

Campbell took an early lead in the second inning when Bri Bryant doubled in Christa Hall. The Highlanders manufactured a run in the top of the third to tie the game at one. Lindsay Hunter began the inning drawing a five-pitch walk. Sydney Fisher picked up her second hit of the game and moved Hunter to second base with a single.

Hannah Medlam moved the pair into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt and Talia Douglas put a ball in play to the right side of the infield. Hunter scored Radford's first run of the game before a strikeout ended the threat.

The Fighting Camels pulled away slightly with their second RBI double of the contest. This one came in the bottom of the third inning, right after the Highlanders tied the game. The RBI double gave Campbell a 2-1 lead.

Radford could only muster up four more hits through the final five innings and only scored one run – the M. Rowe home run in the sixth.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Kayla Huffman and Jessie Marvin split duties in the circle for Friday's contest. Huffman struck out three through four innings, while Marvin only allowed one earned run but suffered the loss. Fisher had two of Radford's six hits in a 2-for-4 performance. M. Rowe and Douglas each tallied RBIs, while Rowe was the only one of the two with a hit.
