MEN’S SOCCER DROPS FIVE-GOAL THRILLER AT (RV) COASTAL CAROLINA

CONWAY, S.C. – Sophomore defenders Thure Ilgner and Bryan Scoffield scored the first goals of their collegiate careers, but the Radford men's soccer team fell on the road to (RV) Coastal Carolina on Saturday night, 3-2.

Radford's pressure gave the Chanticleers fits in the early stages of the game before Sam Snaith netted the opening goal off a cross in the 35th minute. The goal was the lone tally of the first half, as Coastal Carolina took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The home side doubled its lead early in the second half, as Snaith scored his second of the game for Coastal Carolina in the 52nd minute off another cross.

Radford cut its deficit in half less than nine minutes later, as Ilgner recorded his first goal of the season. Pape Oumar Gueye sent in a free kick that Octavio Ocampo redirected on net. After the Chanticleers' goalkeeper made the first save, Ilgner sent the rebound into the top right corner to get the Highlanders on the scoreboard.

Coastal Carolina wasted no time regaining its two-goal advantage, as Snaith completed his hat trick by tapping in a rebound off another cross.

The Highlanders picked up their second goal of the match 11 minutes later as Max-Emilios Angelides sent a long ball that Scoffield one-timed off a bounce into the bottom left corner for his first career goal. The Highlanders kept pressing in the final 15 minutes in search of an equalizer, but were unable to find the tying goal.
