MEN’S TENNIS ENDS PLAY AT UNCG HIDDEN DUALS

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Radford men's tennis team ended the weekend at the UNCG Fall Invitational on Sunday. The weekend was highlighted by Demi Taramonlis, who went 4-0 in all of his singles matches.

Radford played James Madison in doubles and UNCG in singles on Friday, before taking on Campbell and East Carolina in singles and Campbell in doubles on Saturday. The invitational ended with a singles match against USC Upstate and a doubles match against East Carolina on Sunday.

FRIDAY
Eight players compete in singles play during the fall, while four doubles teams are entered. Only three Highlanders were able to pick up victories against UNCG. Those three were No. 2 Taramonlis, No. 5 Matko Varga and No. 7 Karl Katlaps – the transfer from VCU. Katlaps earned his first victory as a Highlander 6-3, 6-3 over Eric Whisnant.

The two teams split in doubles competition. The stellar duo of Yevhen Sirous and Rodrigo Magalhaes earned a 6-4 victory on court 1 over James Madison's top duo Paul Mendoza and Tate Steinour. Taramonlis kept his winning ways and got some help from Andres Silva on court 2.

SATURDAY
Saturday's first singles match saw the first Big South opponent and the Highlanders came through in the clutch against Campbell. Five of the eight players earned victories, highlighted by No. 2 Taramonlis and No. 5 Varga's second victory of the weekend. No. 3 Magalahaes, No. 4 Silva and No. 6 William Crane were the other three that earned victories.

The middle match saw a tough East Carolina team in which Radford came away with two of the eight singles victories. The two were Taramonlis and Silva on court 2 and 4, respectively.

Only three teams competed in doubles play to cap off Saturday's play. The Camels would've pick up a point if the two teams played in the spring as only on Highlander pair picked up a win. The pair the picked up the victory were Taramonlis and Silva on court 1.

SUNDAY
Radford saw the second Big South foe on Sunday as USC Upstate battled the Highlanders in singles play on the final day. Only seven players were in the lineup and only six of them completed play. Taramonlis earned his fourth victory – this time playing as the No. 1. Varga earned his third victory of the weekend on court 5, while Silva and Katlaps picked up their second.

The Highlanders ran into the tough East Carolina team in doubles play to close out the invitational. The Pirates took two of the three doubles matches. The only combo that came away with a victory for Radford was Sirous and Magalhaes on court 1.

UP NEXT
Radford will take a week and a half break before traveling to Tulsa, Okla., for the ITA All-American Championships, beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
