PAUPST’S MULTI-GOAL NIGHT LIFTS RADFORD PAST PRESBYTERIAN

RADFORD, Va.Gabi Paupst's second multi-goal match of the season lifted Radford past Presbyterian, 2-1, on Saturday night at Cupp Stadium.

Radford went into the locker room down a goal after an early score by the Blue Hose in the 11th minute gave them the lead. The Highlanders had multiple looks at the goal in the first 45 minutes but couldn't get any to fall. The team fired 14 shots but only landed four on goal.

That changed just two minutes into the second half. Radford had a corner kick, one of its seven in the half. Lily McLane took the corner and lofted in high in the air, just in front of the goal. The ball found Paupst, who headed it in through the defense and to the left of the keeper. Her fourth goal of the season tied the match at one.

The Highlanders kept firing off shots in the half until none other than Paupst notched the game-winner. Radford took its fourth consecutive corner kick from the right side of the field until it worked. Brianna Oliver took this one in the 77th minute and wrapped it around the defense to the far post. The ball bounced off the post through Highlanders and Blue Hose players until it found the Grimsby, Ontario, Canada native about 12 yards away from the goal. She fired the shot with her left foot and picked up her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The score gave Radford the lead with 12 minutes to play. Presbyterian couldn't get a good look at the net as the stingy Radford defense stepped up and preserved the lead.

Radford fired off 26 shots, which set a season-high. This comes after another 20-plus shot performance when Radford fired off 21 against Winthrop last Saturday. It's the first time this season the Highlanders have had consecutive 20-plus shot matches.
