 VOLLEYBALL


2019 Radford Invitational Tournament

  • After opening the regular season at the Houston Baptist Tournament, Marci Byers tallied her 200th career victory as Radford's head coach. She is the second coach in program history to reach the milestone.
  • Grace Green and Mallory McKnight made the All-Tournament team at the Barcelona Sports Invitational on opening weekend.
  • Team leaders for the Highlanders so far this season are Stephanie Neast with 24 kills, Alyssa Carruth with 32 digs, Jordan Coomes with 55 assists, Mackenzie Meehan with 13 blocks, and Taylor O'Neal with six service aces.
  • The Rams of Fordham are looking to bounce back into the win column after dropping their final match in the Georgia State Tournament.
  • Fordham's senior captain Morgan Williams was named the A10 Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 3rd.
  • Norfolk State enters this weekend's tournament seeking their first victory of the 2019 season after two hard fought battles versus Hampton a few weeks ago.
  • The Spartans have never faced Rider or Toledo. Fordham won the only previous meeting with NSU, a 3-0 triumph in 2013 at the Mountaineer Invitational at West Virginia.
  • Rider starts the 2019 season selected to finish sixth the in MAAC as announced by the preseason coaches' poll.
  • Right side hitter Morgan Romano was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week after her strong weekend performance at the Georgetown Invitational.
  • Toledo hosted the Blue and Gold Tournament last weekend and went 1-2 in matches against North Dakota State, Western Kentucky, and Loyola.
  • The five-set thriller against Loyola capped an exciting weekend of volleyball at Savage Arena. The Ramblers won the first and third sets handily, while the Rockets won sets two and four in close fashion. In the decisive fifth set, Toledo held on to win, 18-16, and capture its first win of 2019.
 
 WOMEN'S SOCCER

  • The Highlanders don a 3-1 record heading into the VMI game on Thursday. Radford is coming off a 1-0 shutout against East Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
  • Nelia Perez scored the game-winning goal for the Highlanders. It was her third score of the season.
  • Courtenay Kaplan and Lexi Dean had another combined shutout for Radford. The Highlanders have not allowed a goal in the three victories of 2019.
  • The Terriers enter with a 2-1 record with its lone loss coming to Charleston Southern on August 25.
  • Wofford has outscored its opponents, 8-6, in 2019 but has been outshot 45-27.
  • Katie Gilligan has scored four goals and tallied one assist for nine total points in just three matches. She has only taken five shots and all five have landed on frame.

  • Hurricane Dorian altered the location of this Sunday's schedule on the campus of USC Upstate at County University Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.
  • The Highlanders fell victim to a late first half goal that set the Flames apart, 2-1 in the season opener on Friday night but bounced back with an incredible 4-3 overtime victory over UNCG on Monday night.
  • Amadou Macky Diop notched a hat trick for the first time in his career and was the first Highlander to pick up three goals in a match since 2017.
  • Diop is second in the nation with four goals this season and third in goals per game averaging two per match.
  • A pair of freshmen showed up in the matches as Mouhameth Thiam tallied two assists and Octavio Ocampo earned his first career goal. His goal tied the match at three and forced an overtime period.
  • The Highlanders rank eighth nationally in shots per game with 20 and landed 8.5 of them on frame ranking 14th in men's soccer.
  • College of Charleston enters with an 0-2 record after dropping matches to Stetson and Georgia Southern.

at Virginia Tech Invite—Friday, Sept. 6

  • The 2019 season officially begins for Radford who will commence the year at the Virginia Tech Invite.
  • Annsley Eckert returns for her junior season as a Highlander and will be looking to help lead the women's cross country team on the road to the Big South 5k Championships in November.  
  • Joe Limo and the men's cross country team will look to build upon their success from the 2018 season in route to the Big South Championships where they finished sixth overall.

 WOMEN'S GOLF


at William & Mary Fall Invitational
Sunday, Sept. 8 – Monday, Sept. 9
Where: Williamsburg, Va.
  • The All-Conference selection Beatriz Mosquera Quintas will return to the green for sophomore season with the Highlanders after her standout rookie performance.
  • The Women's Golf Coaches Association announced the All-American Scholars back in July with Kasidy Beckel, Sidney Walker and Natalie Welsh earning spots on that list.
