Late Surge Sends Blue Hose Past Highlanders

RADFORD, Va. – Taiye Johnson recorded her first career double-double Wednesday afternoon but a late Presbyterian run across the third and fourth quarters sent the Blue Hose past Radford, 62-51, at the Dedmon Center.

Johnson reset her career highs, which were set in the last contest against Longwood, with 12 points and 10 rebounds, both of which led the team. Kyanna Morgan added a career-high 11 points in her first career start, while Tina Lindenfeld and Ashley Tudor scored nine apiece.

Radford opened the scoring on the game's first possession, as Ariel Williams set up Bryonna McClean for a layup 17 seconds into the contest. From there, the visitors went on a 12-2 run before Radford came storming back with seven straight points, with Johnson and Tudor accounting for all seven during the run, which put the Highlanders within four, 13-9, after the opening quarter.

Morgan became the hot hand to begin the second quarter, accounting for eight of the Highlanders' first 11 points to start the frame. Presbyterian kept the lead throughout the quarter but the Highlanders trailed by five points or fewer for the final 5:01 of the half. Tudor banked in a 3-pointer as the shot clock expire and Johnson hit a layup to close the half, as Radford outscored Presbyterian 8-7 over the final 2:08 and trailed by just three, 31-28, at the half.

The Highlanders scored the first four points out of the locker room to retake the lead, 32-31, before Presbyterian went on a lengthy run to take control of the game. Radford managed to tie the game twice, on jumpers from Johnson and Laney Corbin, but a 20-3 Blue Hose run that extended into the fourth quarter gave the visitors their largest lead of the game at 17 points, one that the Highlanders couldn't come back from. Johnson, Morgan and Destinee Marshall combined to score nine of the game's final 12 points, but Presbyterian was able to see out the win.

Tionna Carter led all scorers with 19 for Presbyterian and also grabbed nine rebounds. Nyah Willis and Maleia Bracone added 12 apiece for the Blue Hose, with Willis securing a team-high 10 boards. Trinity Johnson also eclipsed double-figures for the visitors with 10.
